Might as well do a first post here and introduce myself etc. Just booked my airline tickets and stay at HLH. Will be arriving late on Friday night 4/13 at 11:40pm or so, and will be staying until 4/22. My main reason for the trip is for major dental work at Esthetic, but I'm looking forward to some other fun stuff as well. I'm in my late 50's and have stayed away from the bar/nightlife scene for a long time. Not real comfortable in loud music environments since I no longer drink. Oh well, I'm sure find something to do  I shouldn't be too hard to spot, just look for another guy that looks like he's never been there before. I am looking forward to this trip though, a bunch

Be sure that you talk to Boyd, the big guy who runs HLH, as soon as possible after you arrive.

He knows everything that you need to know. He's a Master of Entertainment.....even for guys with a sore mouth.

Get ready for what I like to call "sensory overload!"

I want to go to Esthetic Dental too. On their website they give all contact data but where the hell is their address ? Are they close to HLH ?

They are in Curridabat, but they will pick you up at any hotel. Just let them know where you are staying and they will arrange a transportation for you.

Ahhh, sensory overload, sounds like just the ticket...... in between the prying, pulling and, screwing in of things etc. Not sure, but I think I read somewhere that the taxis at the airport accept US dollars. That would be nice as I'm arriving late. Oh well, back to my reading and researching. What a great site this is!

Yes they will - but look for another guy or 2 to share the taxi with you - you don't all have to be going to the same place, just downtown -ask at baggage claim, etc, and don't change money at the Cambio - just at the bank - which is open late just not sure how late - if open, buy your exit visa before you leave - bank and visa places located in the ticket lobby across the street from baggage claim

Also - you should be able to negociate the fare to $20 SJO to downtown

You might fair better going across the street and seeing if a taxi has just let off a passanger and is returning down town (deadheading) - if so may negociate.

You could also look into Costa Rica Shuttle Service

See all the good info you rec'd in just one post :)

yessiree, thank you much. I still have much reading to do here before I leave. I have two concerns atm. I'm staying at HLH but I won't be getting there until after midnight on Friday. I think I was told I would be able to check in that late, but I had a little trouble understanding the persons english I talked to on the phone, she sounded nice though :) My other concern is carrying a lot of cash down there since my flight makes a stop in Mexico City. It wouldn't bother me as much if I was changing planes in the US first (have had a few bad dealings with authorities in Mex. corruption wise) I messed up my credit a few years ago so I don't have credit cards, and I can get a little better discounts by paying cash. Going to talk to my bank and see what they can do for me on my debit card or something. A little longer post than I wanted to do, sorry. I'll run out of questions soon I hope.
