My 4th trip to San Jose and it was an epic fail. I book RT for 9/14 to 9/19 but after 2 days I paid serious coin to get the hell out of that city on Friday. First of all, Spirit airlines is by far the worst airlines of all time. I cant believe how dis-respectful the flight attendants where to some of the Costa Ricans flying to FLL. Totally different than how they treated the Americans on the flight too CR. I fly year from my job and have never witness so much BS than what Spirit does. I am 41 and have mongored everywhere but besides SL, that city is crap. Stayed at Dunn INN 1 nite and I stayed their 2 years ago but the room I had was a shit hole. Second nite I stayed at La Amistad. I did enjoy that nite, comfortable bed and quiet. |

you said nothing about why you didnt like san jose ...ok we get it ...its a cheap airline (and you took it up the ass to change your flight) you spent $50 to $80 on your room a night , the way you are bitching why didnt you do the same at the hotel ...you could of got a different room Unless you post some real concerns about your trip (you really don't say what the airline did to the ticos....they are grown people and should be able to fight their own concerns) but no one here is going to give a shit unless you tell what happen to you to make san jose sucks ....I love the place !!!(we have a club on this site you should join) |

I think what got me was the collection of misfits I kept on meeting, the poverty and the shittness of San Jose as city. Yes I understnd its a 3rd world but the whole gulch scene was just tired. Met a few Americans that where like frat boys who carried on bout their conquests and carrying on about how they need to make up stories to their girl friends etc about going Atv tours, zip line tours. I honestly can't put into words right now and not sure I want to out of respect for other members here. Yes Sportman was cool, hot chicas, awesome CRTers, but am I really traveling all the way to San jose to spend my whole time at SL. I just think outside of SL, everything is just such down grade. Their are beatiful cities that have mongering and their are ugly cities that have mongering and San Jose is one of them. Happiness is a state of mind and maybe I just wasn't right when I made this visit. |

sounds like you were in a bad mood. you were there before so you knew like everyone sj is not a very nice place other than the girls. i spend a few days in sj each time for dental or medical or whatever, play in the gulch, and then head to the beach where my regular lives. so i got a pretty good set-up, though that took a long time to evolve, many trips over many years, including at least 20 times bringing a del rey chica to the beach, always a big pain. that was before jaco caught on. i love the beach, not jaco beach, and it can be pretty lonely after sundown in the nice beach towns if you aren't hooked up. some guys never leave the gulch and i get it. that can be all the fun a guy wants. if so, sj ain't going to bother him. |

I think that you started the trip off on a bad foot by taking what is arguable (perhaps) the worst airline in the industry to SJO. Buy you are right, the SJ scene is lame when compared to Thighland. The Dunn Inn can be hit or miss as well. And I could not agree more with at least getting out of the gulch, even if it is just to Escazu. |

I'm not big into "validating someones feelings" but in this case you are entitled to yours - seriously I do kinda think your intestines might have been a little bit attached to your eyeballs, resulting is a bit of a shitty outlook I don't like drunk assholes either, but that is part of what you are going to get in San Jose - surely, you were not expecting a church group, right? And, yes, the city of San Jose could be termed a shithole, but I like ticos. Bottom line is CR is NOT for everyone - in the 15 years I've been going, I know a few who felt like you and they did not return - which is fine; better that than bitch the whole time. I live in Miami so SJ is 2.3 hours away; its a lot closer to the USA than asia, or eastern europe - old saying (nothing to do w/ intestines, BTW Seriously, in 15 years and 35 trips, some were better than others - but never a "bad" one. Don't you think it could have been your atitude - just a little |

I can see the poster's frustration here. I have been going for 25 years and will be there soon again. I have to admit SJO is a pretty shitty city and the mongering scene does center around the same 3-4 places, especially for the guy who speaks no Spanish. I see that guys form their own support groups and everyone seems to bang the same girls. Same faces and same little groups at the Happy Hours. Sorry the pricing has gone out of control with all the guys paying cien, but still many good value available, especially if you speak the lingo. I'm in Argentina now for the third time this year. Makes SJO seem pretty lame but I still love the place. |
