Marlin bite should be on about then. I have a 38' boat to reserve if I can get at least one other taker. $1,500 per day plus tip. Description of boat follows: "TALKING FISH" OUT OF TAMARINDO IS A 38-FOOT TOPAZ EXPRESS POWERED BY TWIN DETROIT TURBO DIESELS. THIS SUPERBLY SET UP BOAT IS FULLY EQUIPPED WITH PENN INTERNATIONAL, SHIMANO AND ACCURATE TACKLE, FURUNO COLOR DEPTH SOUNDER AND MAGELLAN GPS. COMFORTABLY SEATING SIX ANGLERS IN THE SHADE, IT FEATURES A LARGE COCKPIT AND CABIN WITH A V-BERTH AND A PRIVATE HEAD WITH SHOWER. "CAPTAIN RANDY WILSON" (WITH MATES EITEL AND WILLY) HAS EXTENSIVE FISHING EXPERIENCE ON THE PACIFIC COAST OF COSTA RICA SINCE MOVING HERE IN 1974. RANDY IS PASSIONATE ABOUT CONSERVATION AND HAS DEVELOPED TECHNIQUES WITH LURE/BAIT RIGGS TO ENSURE BILLFISH ARE NOT HARMED. LURES OR BAITS ARE ROD-TIPPED SO AS TO HOOK THE FISH IN THE MOUTH AREA, RESULTING IN SPECTACULAR JUMPS FROM THE UNINJURED FISH, ENABLING HOOK RETRIEVAL AND THUS GOOD SURVIVAL PROSPECTS. I'm (tentatively) planning on a full day of fishing out of Playas del Coco on Saturday April 30th. If you want to come along, you're welcome to. Not sure what species I'm going after yet. Depends on the reports from the local crews about what's been caught that particular week. If the billfish are chewing, we'll mix up our spread of baits to target them while we're trolling for dorado and/or yellowfin tuna. If the bite has been slow or the winds are howling offshore, we'll run up North towards Nicaragua and do some inshore fishing around the Bat Islands, slow trolling live baits for RoosterFish, Jacks & Cubera Snapper. And if the weather is really shitty, we can just jump on a Panga and run along the beach and see if we can't get a mixed bag. Worst case scenario... we sleep in and beer:30 comes early that day! We never know ahead of time what we're going to do until the night before the trip. MG ![]() |

Maybe two hours? If I can figure out a way to get there I may take you up on that. |

I drive from Playa del Coco to Flamingo Beach in about an hour, and Tamarindo is about 20 mins closer to Coco than Flamingo is! You can drive from Tamarindo to Playa del Coco in about 45 mins..... |

OK. Count me in. Are you staying in Playa del Coco? If so, let me know I may stay there Sat night instead of going back to Tamarindo. I fly back to SJO/Pavas Sunday afternoon. Thanks, Just Me |

Justme, I must correct my previous post. You got me thinking after I went back and re-read it. It is closer to one hour from Tamarindo to Coco. As you drive on the main road from Coco to Flamingo (or vice/versa) through the town of Huacas, you pass the fork-in-the-road going to Tamarindo, about 15 minutes South of Flamingo. But I forgot - that it takes about 15 minutes from that point to get to Flamingo OR Tamarindo, depending on which way you go. So, basically it'll take close to an hour for you to get to Playa del Coco. That weekend, I will be staying at the Hotel Coco Palms in Coco. ( http://hotelcocopalms.com/ ). I'll be there for 3 nights, flying back to San Jose on Sunday, May 1st. FYI - I'm flying Nature Air back to SJO/Pavas on the 12:25 p.m. flight (flt. # 321). Pura Vida, MG ![]() |

What time do you want me to meet you Sat morning? I will just cab it from Tamarindo unless you have another suggestion? Will also book a room at Coco Palms for Sat night. I have not booked my flight back yet so I may arrange to be on the 12:25pm from Liberia. Does not seem to make sense to treck back to Tamarindo to catch a flight that connects in Liberia anyway. |

Does not seem to make sense to treck back to Tamarindo to catch a flight that connects in Liberia anyway. Normally, we get on the boat around 7 a.m. If you're cabbing it that morning, you're gonna be up pretty early! You'll need to be at the Hotel Coco Palms by 6:30 a.m., which means you've got to be checked out of your Tamarindo hotel and in a taxi by 5:30 at the latest. Then we can meet up at the hotel in Coco around 6:30, have a quick cup of coffee, walk down to the beach and get on the boat. Or if you want, you can head over to Coco Friday afternoon/night. They've got rooms at the hotel as cheap as $55 per nite. Then you don't have to worry about running around the morning of the trip. Just a thought... ![]() MG ![]() |
