I have made this post many times before and this year I have decided (once again) to copy last year`s post (with a few updates) "OK guys,,,it is that time of year again. The 8th Annual Dongordo Birthday Bash will be on Saturday August 28 and will again be at Costa del Sol Restaurante. This has always been a popular event and I thought that i would take a moment to explain its origin and purpose. It is more than a birthday bash.What it really is, is an opportunity for a group of guys to get together and enjoy each others company while also enjoying the hospitality of one of our favorite eateries. Ronald goes out of his way to prepare special antipasta and appetizers as well as his incomparable chicken parmesan,also known as the "Especial de Dongordo". It all started as an excuse for a few guys to have dinner together in a private setting where we could relax and be ourselves. The party falls on my birthday (65 this year) but at the stroke of midnight we also celebrate CiaoCiao`s birthday which traditionally is celebrated at Key Largo with shots of our favorite liquor. Unfortunately CiaoCiao will not be able to make it this year but we will continue the midnight toast in his honor. We will be meeting in the lobby area of the Hotel DelRey around 6 pm and then walk down the hill to Costa del Sol where once again we will enjoy a fine meal and the comaraderie that is unique to our CRT brotherhood" I am sure that this year`s bash will be another memorable evening.I will be in town with my brother from Aug 24 to 30 at the Hotel Morazon. |

I have raised my glass at midnite and toasted these 2 fine gentleman the last 2 years. Unfortunately I cannot attened this year but will be there in spirit. What a great time to be in CR btw, I will be missing this trip dearly..  Continue the good times  Cujo |

I was at last year's bash and had a GREAT time, even if it was hotter than Hades upstairs! Meeting the Goodfellaz was worth the price of admission to be sure. If I can slide some things around, will be there again

Gordo seems like you could find a Hotter place to have dinner  just ribbin you happy birthday,gonna have to pass on Casa Del Sol. but will buy you a drink after dinner.

Don Gordo, It is with sad regret that I will miss this great event. The last 2 years celebrating your birthday have been a blast. Dongordo, I have enjoyed your company at this event for the past four years and have always felt honored that you have included me. I still recall August 28 of 2006. I was in Costa Rica for only the second time, knowing very few CRTers, and I went to the Del Rey to meet with all of you guys to celebrate your birthday. Many luminaries were there, including El Ciego, Muffdiver, Vegas Bob, Irish Drifter, Cali dude, Pidd, Lennydo, Mendobrew, Scubabum and many others, and there was a spirit of brotherhood and companionship that for me, was inviting, comforting and overwhelming, all at the same time. After you discovered that my birthday was the day after your's, you insisted that I be included in the festivities. I have always appreciated this, because in doing so, you brought me into the brotherhood. Celebrating with you each year has been great and has provided a wonderful opportunity for us to reach out to old and new CRTers. Little did I know back then how much CRT and its members would play a role in my life. My memories of that night still give me a good feeling. I still recall my amazement at the trays of food at Costa del Sol. They just kept on coming. To this day, I remember how much fun we had at Idem, singing along with the jukebox. You and Muffy had us all going with your version of Mack the Knife. Also, that night, I met my tica sweetie, with whom I spent several years in monger bliss. Since then, my mongering career has taken me a few miles south, and CRTers have played a prominent role in that migration, as well. I regret that due to poor planning and shifted priorities, I won't be at your bash this year. But I will think about all of you, and will toast you at midnight, as well. Ciaociao |

CiaoCiao, it has been an honor to include you in the birthday festivities and you will truly be missed. Your story of your history of the party is similar to others. I have met many CRT newbies at the Birthday Bashes over the years and those friendships have continued over the years. I will continue to celebrate the event as long as I am able. |
