This is what I have done so far for my upcoming trip. A bit unstructured but that's kind of how I like it to be. Actually, I have no choice as I've been informed that it's raining in CR lots these days. According to a weather site, it says it's going to thunderstorm every single day for the next 2 weeks. I doubt it's being accurate.
My plans have some slight changes I made today. I'll spend the 4th and 5th at Sportsman's, then to Jaco at Clarita's for only one night. I may stay an extra night in Jaco if it's nice to take a day tour to Isla Tortuga for kayaking. After that I've left my plans blank and no reservations. I'll just wing it from there for the next few days. I am booked to stay at Sportsmans on the return also on May 10-11.
For the few days that I'm winging it, it will totally depend on the weather and how much fun I am having. La Fortuna is pretty nice (been there b4). I'm not sure about the girls in La Fortuna as I went there with my ex a few years ago. If I end up in La Fortuna, I'm considering (but not settled) on staying at the Backpackers Hostel. It's relatively cheap and has decent amenities and a very social atmosphere to mingle with other travelers from abroad.
My other options instead of La Fortuna may be Tamarindo (north) for snorkeling or Ballena Marine Park (south) for whale-watching.
While I am in San Jose, I'll take a one or 2 day tours combo packages that cover the coffee plantation, volcano, sights in one day and a zip line tour.
I guess I have my trip pretty roughly planned out, but nothing is set in stone except for the accommodations the first 3 (sl, sl, and clarita) and last 2 nights (sl,sl) of my trip. And of course, meeting some old and new friends from CRT and enjoying the local cuisine (that's code.. heh heh).
