Howdy, all! I'll be heading down to CR for my very first visit at the end of February and I'm looking forward to checking out the scene in the Gulch!

I haven't booked accommodations yet, since I'm waiting for all this forum upgrade stuff to be completed so I can purchase a VIP status here.

After reading through a bunch of posts here, it seems like the SL is the best place to stay for a newbie like myself. Does that sound right?

I'm planning to party in San for a few days, then head out into nature for a couple of days, then return to SJO for a little more partying before I leave.

I'm looking forward to getting signed up for VIP here so that I can start participating for real.

Hope to meet some of the fellow mongers when I'm down there. Thanks for all the info already, guys!

Just booked a room at the SL for Thursday and Friday night (25th and 26th)... I also reserved a room there for the night before I head to the airport on Tuesday, March 2nd.

So that's three nights booked! But I'm still not sure where I'll be sleeping on Saturday, Sunday, or Monday night... I'm sure I'll want to get out of town and do some nature-y things on those days... I'm particularly interested in checking out Arenal (hot springs!) and possibly interested in doing a zip-line canopy tour of some sort.

Anyone have any suggestions for these two activities? I heard that you can actually camp at the base of Arenal and watch the Lava flow at night... True? Also, is the zip-line thing a total tourist trap?

Also... Not sure if this is the best thread to be asking questions of a non-tica related variety. :-)

I assume the regular Thursday Happy Hour is still on at the SL? I'm definitely planning to be there for that so I can buy a drink for some of the fine gents who have been a great resource of information on this forum.

:-)

Arnel is a long trip from SJ. Plan on traveling one day and spending the night and traveling another day back to where ever. The Paos butterfly farm and waterfalls is about 1.5 hour ride from SL. The zip lines are about the same from SL. Jaco beach on the pacific is about 2 hour drive and you can sleep there. In Jaco or Quepos you can ZIP line or fish or surf. It is hot all the time. When at Sl ASK bILL THE OWNER about the stuff you see to do. His staff has the service to arrange all the day trips from his hotel.

Check out La Amistadt hotel which is in walking distance from SL.

Very convenient.

Will be part of a group 5 from San Antonio and 4 others from other places going down to paint the town green.

Most of us will be at SL and my brother (who I have corrupted) will be at La A.

Perhaps our paths will cross.

Woo hoo! Less than one week before I arrive at the SL for my cherry-breaking first trip to CR. Looking forward to meeting some of the gents that I've spoken to on here. See you all at the Happy Hour. :-)

Thanks, Cujo! Already working on an excuse for heading there in May... And I haven't even been there once yet. :-)

Rico: Definitely cool to hook up with you... I'm thinking of getting out of town on Sunday, getting a little bit of nature and replenish the soul. Then I'm thinking I'll be back in town on Tuesday.

Of course, that's my current plan. We'll see if I still wind up leaving town once I get a taste of the scene.
