I came across your website in planning for my upcoming trip to Costa Rica. My take would be, San Jose is going to be the place for this. The coasts will not provide this opportunity. A massage parlor like Hotel Little Havana
or going to the Del Rey and laying all your cards on the table would be your best bet IMHO.

I agree with 911 about the beach. You can go to the capital coming in and out. Then just wing it at the beach. As far as color goes, It is just like the states. As far as them doing it. You tell them what you want, You pay afterwards and what is there to worry about. It is your money and you are paying. Treat people the way you would want to be treated. You will not have any issues then. Now some are better than others of course. And it is up to you to decide what is your type.

It seems like we may miss the fun then...unless we can find a few free hours before our flight on our last day; our trip is very short, only 5 days in Costa Rica, and as freaky as we are, we don't want to spend time chasing tail and we don't want to spend as much as it would take to have a tica join us on the beach; nor do we want a third for the entire trip, just for a wild experience at night time after our muscles have recovered from kayaking ;-)

I'm very interested, though, to hear how you fine gentlemen think race will play a factor. The guide books seemed to imply that Costa Ricans have an aloof at best attitude toward African-American tourists, except maybe on the Caribbean coast (Limon). Will the ticas feel the same way? Will it impair our abilities to get a date, if we were to be in SJ, or if we visited one of the spots near Samara that were mentioned on this site (Bar Mango and El Kuru)?

I'm of Dominican heritage. My wingman is Jamaican.

We've been to Costa Rica 6 times this year. We experienced the following racial incidents:

- A Hotel Del Rey colombiana made a comment about my wingman's race when he turned her down after she asked for cien.

- Another Hotel Del Rey chica (I believe she was a dominicana) said she wasn't racist, but she didn't like going with black men (:D everyone at our table cracked up at this sally, she said this without a trace of irony).

... And that's been pretty much it.

I've found the color chicas (not just ticas, but also nicas, colombianas, dominicanas, brasileras, venezolanas, etc. etc.) are concerned about is the color of your money.

I can tell you I don't get as much attention as my Caucasian brothers when I sit in the Del Rey on my own, but that's because the chicas think I'm a local -- I don't really look like a tico but they can tell I'm Hispanic. But all I have to do is open my mouth; when that Noo Yawk accent comes out, I suddenly become George Clooney to them.

If you're saying you want your man to pound a pretty little prostitute and you would prefer her to be of Costa Rican nationality (as opposed to a Colombian, Nicaraguan, or somewhere else), that's one thing.

Just be aware "tica" is not synonymous with "prostitute" -- it means "woman from Costa Rica".
