Was looking at the website for the Hotel La Amistad....anyone have any feedback. Miamiheller...you stayed there on the last trip. How was it? How does it compare to Hotel M? |

Miamiheller...you stayed there on the last trip. How was it? How does it compare to Hotel M? Well, it's not the same (see my 5/6 TR for a comparison). But I liked it. I guess it depends in which room you stay - my wingman was in 311 and he was going nuts. There are quite a few threads discussing Hotel La Amistad service, rooms, etc. so I won't get into that. One clear advantage over M: it is nice to be very close to SL and HDR but not THERE, if you know what I mean. If you do stay there, pick one of the PHs, preferably 202. Many rooms do not have exterior windows, so you are almost 100% on artificial light. mh |

In my opinion one of the worst room to stay in. only a shower, very big and spacious. has a kitchen and a full size refrigerator. will stay there again but not in that room. could not sleep after 4 am when the train start running.. |

to piggyback on this thread about the amistad, i've asked them but no response regarding the following questions ... so i'll ask you guys who may have stayed there before: -do the rooms themselves have wired internet connection? -otherwise, is wireless available throughout the hotel? -are the safes in the room large enough to house a laptop (not a small netbook) or will the front desk hold it? thanks guys. |

My Thinkpad X200 won't fit. Doesn't matter to me as I tether it to the dresser or table with a laptop cable. mh |

i have stayed there 7 times. it is very nice to be 1 short block from the sportsman's and an easy walk or very short cab from the HDR. great rates, especially if you stay for a week or more, friendly staff, free laundry and breakfast. and NO chica fees. the downside is, proximity to THE TRAIN. if you have an inside room no worries. i like some light and fresh air and between the train and some of the loud barking dogs it can be a pain if you are a light sleeper. but the beds are the best and several of the suites are absolutely fantastic with great amentities: jacuzzi, sauna, etc. but even the basic queen bed rooms are nice. it is not a cookiecutter hotel. hardy any 2 rooms exactly alike. and good food and drink available now that the bar & restaurant are finally open. with CRT and a weeks stay it is less than half what you will pay at the HDR when you consider they provide no food and charge $10 per guest. now that's the kind of math i understand. |

i have never had a problem with any theft there and have never heard of any either. the safes are not big enough for laptops unless its really, really tiny. |

Yes, ALL rooms have wired internet and they will supply a CAT5 cable if you need one. Wireless is available throughout the hotel. Personally, I prefer the wired connection and travel with my own. The desk will hold your laptop for you, but has been earlier stated, there really is no need. (I do not believe a 14" laptop will fit in the in-room safe....that size of laptop is too large...so that includes anything larger). I suppose there is always a first time for any and everything, though. I leave my notebook out in plain site and generally connected even when I am not in the room. It's never been touched (and my communication set up is something to see since it's so "street wired": I have it mounted on a big ass Samsonite suitcase which is on the floor in front of the tv, and the laptop sits on the luggage. It don't move once it's set up. I suppose I run the risk of some cleaning product being spilled on it....but I rather doubt it....). Something you did not ask but which is important: The hotel has a "fat pipe" to the internet....that is....it is very High Speed: 4-5meg down and 1 meg up.....even when J0sie is hogging...! ![]() Bigbossman72 wrote: to piggyback on this thread about the amistad, i've asked them but no response regarding the following questions ... so i'll ask you guys who may have stayed there before:
