Antcarr09: Welcome to the board The nearest beach would be Jaco. It is about 2-2 1/2 hours by car, traffic permitting. If you wake up early and leave by 8:00am it is a nice day trip and you can be back in San Jose by 6:00pm or a little later which will give you plenty of time. Or if you book a hotel for the night and stay you can hit the infamous Beetle Bar, plenty of selection but may not be as good quality, and then drive back the next day. If you hire a driver you're looking at around $150.00 for the day. Try to negotiate a better price. Cabs are available 24 hours a day and the doorman at an establishment will get one for you. Watch it though because sometimes the doorman and the cabby are working together and will jack the price up on you. Make sure the cabby uses the meter. If you hire a cab at the hotel you may be able to negotiate a better rate and he'll wait around for you, or pick you up a certain time. You may ask for his cell phone number and play it by ear as to what time you leave and then call him/her. PM POPS. He runs a wingman service and hangs out at the SL. With it being your first trip there will be plenty of other mongers around. Check through the board and see who lives in San Jose, send them a PM letting them know you'll be in town. It is a great group of people on this board and many are more than willing to help out. Wish I could be there. I know you'll have a great time. |
