Post subject: | End of August Trip-Questions? |
I was planning on trying MDE, but decided to take a pass. I had a good time last time in CR. So I am planning on being in CR by the end of this month. I am pretty open for dates, so i will find the best flight. I really do want to go back to jaco for some fishing. How is the fishing at this time of year? Does it rain daily? How long is the drive from the airport, drectly to Jaco? It was almost 3 hours from downtown San Jose last time. Just want to know if it will be worth going to Jaco again or staying in SJ the entire time. I hate to pass up on some good fishing(if it is good) If all is well, I plan to be in jaco for 3-4 days and then back to San Jose for some Gulch Life. Hoping to stay at the Sportman or Amistad. Is there still Poker at the Horseshoe? Is the game at the Clarion still happening? What nights? How is the money situation? Do most places still take US Dollars? Or Colones only? I totally forgot where I cambio'ed last time??? I still have a couple of hundred(US) in colones from last time for cab fare. I will be headed down solo this time so if anyone wants to join, let me know dates. I will have my exact dates by this week. |

I hate to pass up on some good fishing(if it is good) Sport, Here's a good link for fishing reports for the central part of the country (Los Sueños / Herradura, Jaco, Quepos). http://www.costaricafishingreport.com/ Much depends on what species you're going to target. If you just want to catch something that'll give you a good fight, then you can find action year-round, no matter what part of the country you're in. If you're strictly looking for billfish (Marlin / Sailfish), then that's a little different. Coming into the ladder part of the summer, the biggest concentration of billfish will be up to the North (Guanacaste), but in the central part of the country, you'll still get plenty of shots at tuna, mahi (dorado), roosterfish and snapper, along with several other species - with an occasional shot at a marlin or sailfish. Have a great time! MG ![]() By the way, I'm in town the same dates as you. I might head offshore on Saturday (August 29) for a full day. But I'll be fishing out of Flamingo Beach, and we'll probably run up the coast into Nicaragua for the bite up there. If you're interested, let me know. |

I believe that during the dates you mentioned pink snapper should be in season in Lago Espormen and Lago Del Rey, both of which are convenient to San Jose. |

Last time my buddy and I were in CR, we caught some tuna and a bunch of Dorado. My buddy hooked a monster bull at the end of the day. Pic below. He requested I block his face since he had no idea where I might post his pic. Thanks for the info, but another friend just called and said he might be able to get off work to wingman with me in MDE. if that happens, CR will have to wait until next time. I will know this week. ![]() |

No worries. If you end up in CR instead of MDE, let me know. We'll see if we can't get you a nice marlin! MG ![]() |

MG ![]() I have caught most spiecies if fish. BUT never any type of billfish. I tried in Rio and a sail came up and missed the ballyhoo. I tried in CR, but water was choppy. I was about to book a trip to Guatamala just for fishing!!! If my friend cannot make it, I will be Pura Vida all the way. You set me up with a Marlin, I will be eternally thankful. A billfish is on my Life's "To Do" list. |
