Staying at the SL(Oso Grande room) July 2-6 for trip number 2. CR is my new short trip destination after 3 trips to Puerto Plata and Sosua DR. Anyone else in town to celebrate Independence Day abroad?

Hey man. I will be there during that time but was thinking on going to the beach for the weekend. Have you ever been in San Jose during the 4th? Is there anything special that goes on for us Americans?? I might just change my plans and blow off the beach if there is a party going on.

The biggest happening for gringos is the annual picnic held by the American Colony. It takes place on the grounds of the Costa Rica brewery located just off the pista near the airport. Runs from 8:00 A.M. to noon and has free beer, hot dogs and other foods. U.S. Marine honor guard hold the flag raising ceremony and a few dignitaries make short remarks.

Was always free admission until last year when they charged 2000 colones. Have not heard what the policy will be this year. Attendance use to run about 5000 when it was free and dropped to 3500 last year.

NY Bar usually offers free hot dogs and one year the Capital Grille at the White House had free beer, burgers and beans.

Other then that not much different in San Jose from any other day.

ID, thanks for the low down on Independence Day events. Would be something nice to go to with that special chica.

Ashen, the only activities I have on my itinerary at this point are making fireworks in the tico MPs during the day and in my room by night with some gorgeous Del Rey, Key Largo, and/or SL chicas. Part of an evening in Pantera Rosa is also a possibility. I would consider a visit to the beach with a special chica but the only beach I know of, Jaco, is a long haul from downtown San Jose.
