I know there's a week in March or April when San Jose becomes a ghost town due to all the ladies heading back to their home countries or staying in for religious reasons. Can someone tell me what this is called and when it's occurring in 2009 so I'm sure not to book that week? Gracias, SK |

It's called Semana Santa, which is basically "Holy Week" which is the week before Easter Sunday every year. For 2009, with Easter falling on April 12, Semana Santa would begin 1 week before on Palm Sunday April 5. That week is a great time to not be in San Jose for mongering. |

I'm trying to plan a trip just before Semana Santa in 2009. Would Viernes de Dolores on April 3rd and Sábado de Pasión on April 4th still be normal days in Costa Rica? |
