This will be my first trip to Costa Rica and my first post so be gentle. Trip started out to be a three man scuba trip to the islands off Playa de Coco with a couple nights in San Jose. Things were looking good as my buddy is fluent in spanish and his friend has several Costa Rican trips under his belt. Picked trip dates, booked tickets and found this site for research, life is so good I can hardly sleep. Then my buddy informs me that three of his drinking buds (non-divers and rookies like me) have signed up to go with us. I know one of them from the tiki bar at the marina where my buddy lives and have met the other two once. So now it looks like party of six for fishing in Jaco. Life is still good, just different. Then my ex-bud decides to change jobs, backs out and his veteren friend bails too. If my math is correct, that leaves four rookies. Life is ----- what the hell, Costa Rica here we come.

Hunter12,
Don't panic! You'll be fine.

You've been reading the board for a couple months, and you're a VIP member, so you're already on your way to having a great time! If you haven't read this thread yet, it's a must read:

https://costaricaticas.com/phpBB2/vi ... hp?t=16357

You've still got 9 days before your trip, so read as much as possible. The more you can learn ahead of time, the better off you'll be. Be careful, don't be an "ugly american", and just enjoy yourselves.

Oh, and one more thing....... MAKE SURE TO POST A TRIP REPORT WHEN YOU RETURN! By the way - welcome to the board. Now accept the fact that when you return from your 1st trip to CR, you'll be forever PHUCKED FOR LIFE! (just like the rest of us) :o

Mucho Gusto

Hunter, if I could I'd be there to lead you around. I've done it before with newbies.

No worries pal. If a 50 year-old blind guy can have the time of his life every trip, you can too! Mucho Gusto tells true here; read and learn as much as you can. Download and print Get Rhythm/Prolijo's map in the V.I.P. section. Follow Ace's brilliant advice, posted as stickies in the Newbie section. Print out RBC100's list of tico bars and massage places for low-budget alternatives. PM Mucho Gusto and many CRT sponsors about fishing and scuba diving. You've got time and plenty of new buds to help you out.

Stay safe, have fun and be sure to report back to us! Photos (with the ladies' permission, of course) are always welcome!

Pura vida! And welcome to CRT!

Many thanks for the advice and words of reassurance from everyone. A rookie can only wonder how much time, money and trips it took to amass this collection of info, certainly worth more than @39.00 I paid.

BTY, can anyone help with info on Hotel Morazan reservations. I can't seem to get the reservation form to work. Is there a phone # or other means to secure rooms. thanks again for your help.

Please disregard request for info on Hotel Morazan, found phone info in search duh. Called and no rooms available. Have sent e-mails to Hotels Castillo and Armistad and waiting for response. If anyone knows of a hotel with vacancies, please help as I prefer not to camp-out on my first trip.

Thanks in advance and looking forward to meeting some of the CRT-ers.
