Is Anyone Going down.... I'll be there the 29th of Sep through the 8th of Oct. Any suggestions on a decent Tica Friendly place to stay in SJ. I also plan to go to Tamarindo for a few days (any Tica Friendly suggestions). I also here that CR Carnival is around this time.... Anyone ever been or heard any good things about it? |

Carnival is held in Limon. I have never attended so can not give you any first hand knowledge. Perhaps someone on the board has been and can help out. One note, the Carnival may or may not be held this year. There is a serious dengue fever outbreak around Limon and the Minister of Health has threatened to cancel the carnival unless a significant reduction of the number of new cases is reported. Stay tuned. |

ID is correct. The carnival is in Limon (puerto limon, proper). If you can get a room at this point, Hotel acon is a decent bet. Its in the middle of the city and convienent to everything. I was at Carnival in 2004 and 2005. 2004 I reserved late and stayed in the nicer hotel down the street from the acon (its pink i dont remember the name) but was loud!!! Nice rooms but they jack up during the festiva as can be expected. The other part of the 2004 trip was in cahuita. Yea, we had to stay that far out for a room... almost had to stay in puerto viejo. Its a good party. Damn good. 2005 was a bit more fun as I was in Limon for the whole thing. If you go to limon, do go to el faro(i think). it the place atop the hill with some of the best food you'll find. Do not do as we did and walk back to town after midnight. Didnt have a problem but it was a tense time! ![]() If you need more info, PM me. I'll see what I can dig up. You may be late on reservations though... unless you dont mind cahuita or Puerto viejo. Good luck on whaty ever you do decide. It is worth it. Just be careful. ![]() |
