I once drove from SJO to Tambor. It was OK to do once but I was pretty tired and stressed out on the return trip. I thought that the Germans drove like madmen until I drove in Costa Rica. Take the bus and enjoy the trip.

I personally take the buses. However the SANSA and Nature Air flights are very cheap and cuts travel time down to one hour or so.

Thrifty.com is the only way to go (not the airport location, but in town). You can walk there from SL. I agree that driving in CR can be very sketchy, but I've done it before and in crazier places too like Jamaica. I figure Interbus is $40 each way and then add a chica and i'm up around $160. Gotta a decent SUV (not a Jimmy) for $140 or so for 3 days, and let my CC company provide the insurance. Plus I get flexibility. I'm open to bringing some guests on my drive to Puerto Viejo on the 26th. Also with Thrifty, you don't give your credit card info prior so you can blow off the reservation. The bus would be much more stress free but I like a little adventure.

Those flights scare the hell pout of me. I have no problems with big planes but don't like the American Eagle flights either. I don't know if any of you were in CR when that plane crashed into Arenal years ago. It made the news, of course. A High School classmate of mine was killed in that plane.

Ok, Decided to book the HDR from 11/28 - 12/2. Rainman, I'll see you and the boys at SL often. Damn, I can't wait.

It's about 24 hours till I leave for the airport [LAS]. This is my longest timespan [7 weeks] being away from CR this year. No puedo dormir--too excited.

Staying at La Amistad [Room #309, as usual]. Arrive early afternoon on Monday [11/23] from IAH. Favorita will meet me on arrival @ hotel. After taking care of business, hope to meet up with many of the fine CRTers who've posted here.
