Flights for the next trips are scheduled. This is attempting to replace the trip I had scheduled to Thailand and the Philippines this October. Travel to Thailand is possible but too much hassle and expense with very few venues actually open at this time. I am hoping for mid-2022.

For some reason due to Delta's special Covid status accelerators I have the chance to hit Platinum status this year, something I haven't done since I retired. If my calculations are correct these flights should put me over the top.

October 17 - Flight from Ohio to San Jose CR (16 nights)

I will be staying mostly in San Jose with a possible short run to Jaco or Puerto Viejo. I will split my time between the Castillo and Sportsmens. I did manage to snag a room at the SL for the Halloween weekend but I doubt much will be going on for the holiday, but you never know.

I hope to see many of you Sportsmens and Castillo "regulars" this trip.

November 2 - Flight for San Jose to Mexico City (3 nights)

Still searching for a hotel here as I have never visited Mexico City. I have been advised that the Zona Rosa is the area to stay. Lots of bars and restaurants. Any advise for a Mexico City vet would be appreciated.

November 5 - Flight from Mexico City to Guadalajara (3 nights)

I have selected my hotel based on a very good trip report in ISG. The name is cheesy, Hotel Love It Consulado, but it has excellent reviews. Again, first time visitor to GDL so any advice would be appreciated.

November 8 - Fly home

December 7 - Flight Ohio to Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic (7 nights)

I will probably stay at the Sosua Inn. If I wasn't traveling solo I would rent a villa for the same money but the hotel is great and incredibly convenient.

December 14 - Fly home from Santiago, Dominican Republic

Getting retired is easy. Getting rich, not so much :-) Thanks for the good wishes

I called Delta to change my outbound flight to SJO to arrive on Saturday the 16th instead of the 17th. I was totally shocked when the service rep told me the change would result in a +$200 CREDIT. I can honestly say that in over 40 years of buying plane tickets this is the first time I have changed a flight with the same itinerary and just a date modification that I got money back.

I wonder how long it will take for the airlines to return to their pre-Covid, mercenary ways.

The no change fee is nice. Sure makes it easy to make and change plans. I will be there Oct. 25th for a week. Staying at the Castillo and looking forward to a lot of fun.

I love the countdown. Today is the 9th and I leave the 27th. Been tracking the date since I booked in April and it is close. You have me by a few days but definitely will be over-lapping while there.

Current restrictions are in place until 15-October (next Friday). Nothing new announced yet, I think they are waiting on your arrival.

On a positive note, the contagion rate (R-factor) is the lowest since April. Nationwide it us 0.84 and in San Jose it is 0.79. In the population most of us target (20 - 39 year olds), 80% have received one dose, 40% have had both doses.

Boynton

If they are awaiting my arrival then they'll probably roll the closing time back to 6pm or so :-)

RockinRob1 - do a quick report on Jaco when you get there. I am currently scheduled for 16 nights in San Jose and might need a beach break before I go over to Mexico City where I imagine it will be a bit chilly.

You bet. I will be there for 3 days before heading to Castillo for 4 days. Can you PM me your MDN? I ask only because I use my desktop here for this and have not added the CRT to my mobile device. If you send me your MDN (mobile device number). (I am an engineer for TMO and forget some might not know the acronym) If you send that I will text you the updates and then write a bigger and better update when I return...once I get through the depression of returning.

I will be at Castillo on 30/31/1/2 so if you are in San Jose let's hookup on Saturday and maybe a couple of us can grab some chicas and some adult beverages and have our own Halloween party after the curfew. I am up for it and we actually have 2 PH rooms (with my cousin), so if we all can grab some female company and some adult beverages we could make it a fun time. I am actually looking for a good device to play music as well so prepping for a party.

The Tournant (adjacent to the Hotel Taormina) will be hosting a Halloween event.

Their event partner could help you organize that after hours party in your rooms.
