I just got back from a "dental" trip but am now getting ready for my annual October vacation. Last year it was Thailand and Vietnam but I need to accrue some more miles to hopefully return to SE Asia next year.

Flying into SJO on October 13. I will be staying at La Amistad through the 19th then heading to Jaco on the 20th. Taking advantage of the free Jaco transportation that comes with La Amistad's all inclusive.

I'll be staying at the Hotel Mango Mar in Jaco. It's on the beach, right next door to the Cocal. Definitely not upscale but it has a little guitar-shaped pool and the rooms are decent. About half the price of the Cocal and much quieter.

Head back to San Jose on the 24th and checking into the Sportsmens Lodge. Since the trip goes through Halloween (November 3) I made my reservation about 6 months ago. I've been shut out many times in the past at the SL for procrastinating. I was lucky, I got the room I wanted in the modern wing and I don't have to switch rooms mid-stay.

Still debating on whether to bring the golf clubs as that will entail checking bags and it will be raining most afternoons.

Looking forward to having a few drinks and partying with some fellow board members.

It's about 5 blocks, depending on the route you take. A reasonably mobile guy can walk it in 15 min with ease. At night take a cab, usually 10 min or less.

You can preview the route since both are on google maps. Although SL is listed as "Sportsman's Lounge" instead of Sportmans Lodge.

Looks like we will have a bit of overlap in San Jose. When I am staying at La Amistad I will probably spend a good bit of time drinking in the Sportsmens.

Look forward to seeing you again.

Had to change my flight so I am arriving on the October 11th now instead of the 13th. I still won't leave until November 3.

Seven days and counting :-)
