This is my first trip to CR. Travelling Solo from NYC and hoping to have a good time.
I arrive pretty late around 12.00 AM into SJO. Is Cab the best option to get into town from the airport.

What is the best hotel to stay without too much hassle. Since I am a newbie and first time want to keep things simple..and have a good couple of nights .
And is the Tica Scene pretty active after midnight..
Read a lot about Del Rey and the easy access to everything.. Is that the best hotel to stay (read in some reviews the rooms are pretty run down)
read on the forums sportsmens is another good option..any current recommendations..
And looks like Delrey and other SJ hotels don't do reservations online.. is calling and reserving the best option ??

TIA..

Yes, airport taxi (orange color) will take you to your hotel. The fare will be what's on the meter. Or you can prebook a private driver. PuraVidaTransport is a CRT guy who provides taxi services. You can reach out to him also. Or your hotel can send a car to pick you up. Those are the 3 options at that time of the night.

Oh man, you are coming in less than a week and are just now asking about hotels? Reservations can be done by phone (toll free 800 number) or email. Sportsmens does online reservations too. Looks like they have 1 room left for those days. http://www.sportsmenscr.com/

Yes, 15 min walk in the day.

Take a taxi after dark. 5 min ride.

Both can be located on google maps, although SL comes up as Sportsmen's Lounge.

Welcome to CRT! First trip - I'm excited for you brother!! I still get goosebumps and butterfly's in my stomach every time the flaps go down as the plane is getting ready to land!!! Disneyland for men!

+ 1 on Puravidatransport or OneLuckydog. It just nice and easy to have a gringo waiting for you with your name on a card on arrival. You will be getting in late so HDR is an easy option for first night.

I wouldn't stay at HDR myself, but for your first night and hour of arrival....it might not be a bad idea! Plus you will save time and cab fare to and from the SL or LA.

After first night I would stay at SL for first trip. Both HDR and SL are bucket list events and rights of passage for Mongers!!!!! :(

Plus, the energy level at the HDR will be cranking at 1am versus arriving at SL or LA where it is quiet and dark and everyone is asleep....you might want to just crash for the night and not hassle with catching a cab solo to HDR.

But if you roll into the HDR......yahoo!!!! Plus there will be some gringos to chat up.

Good luck and write a trip report!
