Although been wanting to visit for over 10 years, have never made CR the priority. Now, I'm sick of my job, have a buddy who is sick of his job, & we may never leave if we like it there. Flying into LIR 11/23, visiting some beaches from Potrero down to Samara, over to Jaco, then ending San Jose for a couple of days before leaving 12/1. Can't hit everything, but will do my best.

What kind of bird do they serve for Thanksgiving? j/k

Maybe see a few well-posted veterans; hope so.

I think the Sportsmens Lodge has a Thanksgiving Day fiesta you may want to take a look into.

How are you guys going to get around from Liberia to beach to beach to SJ etc and back to Liberia if that is where you are departing?

Fieldtech,
thanks for the heads up re: Sportsmens; I've been waiting to visit there for ages.

Gersen,
plan is to pick up rental auto at LIR & drop it off at SJO.

Super plan. Have a ball. With a car you'll be free and for your plan the only way. Stuff to worry about with rent a cars in CR so search "car rental" on the board for an often posted subject--unfortunately the search function is currently not good, or pm me and I'll be glad to share my experience with diff rental co's and the games from years and years that are played. One thing for sure bar none--do your rental from the states and bring your conf# and conf with you. They will make you buy the required insurance unless certain credit cards cover it, but my advise is buy all of the insurance. $$$mucho but peace of mind.

Here's a good site for you for mileage and distance etc http://www.yourtravelmap.com/costarica/ ... width=1440

P.S.: (or PD as they do down here), how did you get a Liberia flight coming in and a SJ flight out?

Thanks again Gersen. Yes, I wouldn't mind hearing any games I've not encountered previously. Been kinda lucky up 'til now (knock on wood); don't jinx it now, ya hear? ha!

On most flight search engines, there are 3 options: round-trip, one-way, multi-city. Chose multi-city if you want to enter at 1 location but depart from another. Apologies if I've just insulted your intelligence; not meant to.

I never noticed "multi city", always get hung up on 1-way or r/t. I will have to check and see if that works out for me & CR for my area. There are some non stops to Liberia from my area but never to SJ, forget which airlines. Depending on my mood, it would be sweet to fly there or home from Liberia non-stop, probably home since I usually like playing SJ but wind up my trip Pacifico but then have to drive back to SJO airport. Not a big time saver, but an easier ride/check in/out at Liberia

Re the cars, the main thing is take a bunch of fotos of the car when you get it, inside too, and the trunk, and under the hood and the wheels/tires; and make sure every knick, scratch, missing item is noted on the inspection sheet you will sign and get a carbon of.

Take your time even if the tico gets impatient and says si si aqui and he'll show you some scribble--but it ain't always hay en el papel to my satisfaction. Horror stories abound from experienced posters, even about Budget which I have found to be the least pain in the ass, so I still foto and video the car thoroughly.Have your camera ready when you get there so you are not scrounging thru your luggage. Bring it back full with gas or you'll get gouged. Gas stations are not everywhere like the US so start thinking about that, or else buy the pre-paid but to make that work for you $$ wise you have to bring it back on empty. I do that but I've got it down to a science. In SJ, there is a gas station at LaSabana where Paseo Colon starts which is just blocks away from the airport highway, or another one a mile back towards the city once you exit the side road you need to get on when returning the car--most of the agencies are on that road 1/2 mile or so from the airport.

You guys are going to have fun.
