Post subject:  24 Perfect Hours in San Jose

Happy New Year's to all the cyber pals who have been so helpful in planning my first trip to CR. Spending five nights at the beach and then back to SJ for a bit more than 24 hours prior to catching the flight back north.

Most on the board by definition are well traveled. Certainly you have seen the airline magazine's 'A Perfect Day in [insert city]' series on either AA or UA. Well, I am looking for a monger's perspective on a perfect 24 hours in SJ. (Please do not try and talk me into changing my outbound flight date to extend -- I have been already thinking about what excuses I might be able to use.)

My wingman and I would like to sample as much diversity in the 'scene' in SJ as possible without cheating ourselves on the experience for sake of punching the card. One complicating factor is likely that the 24 hour period in SJ starts at around 10am on a Sunday -- I assume that I am dealing with a group of good Catholic firls  We are two early forty-somethings who are 'unmedicated' which, obviously, presents some logistical considerations of timing the perfect day.

If it fits in, would like the perfect day to include one nice dining experience (do not need white table clothes, just great food and a good vibe to the restaurant) and, a ('normal') disco if there is any hope of a scene on a Sunday night. Also, wouldn't mind spending a little 'between' time in a nice spa environment - steam room, whirlpool, etc. -- with a great sensual massage (no leche). If it matters, we are staying at the Prez.

So, for those of you with experience, would very much appreciate your insights into a perfect 24 hours in SJ, commencing at 10am on a Sunday. I can assure you that we will already be back - we both keep hearing incredible things to just about everyone we talk to about CR ("You're going with just the guys...do you have any idea what you are in for...").

Well I would definetly eat at Fogo Brazil. Great good, good service....and white table clothes!

If you want a traditional disco I will let others help you. If you want a disco atmosphere with "available" girls my favorite place in SJO is Key Largo.

The steam, sauna, and atmosphere at Zona Blue is fantastic!

Since many of my "vacations" are 24-hours, I think about such things a lot!

Let's assume noon-noon.

1. Drugstore stop (I vote Cialis. So what if you land back in the states with a hard-on?).

2. Zona Blue for a welcome drink, flirting and a massage.

3. Grab a post-coitel piece of chicken from that place that burned down (a minor disagreement with the previous poster, there is not enough time for elegant sit-down meals).

4. 4pm: Grab a table at the BM. Start accumulating CRT friends

5. 5pm: Listen to some Vegas Bob stories and soak in some wisdom. Might eventually get you arrested, but well worth it.

6. 7pm: Bring your friends to the Sportsman Lodge for a drink and maybe an appetizer or sandwich.

7. 8:30pm go to D'Palufo's. Sit in the front row.

8. 11pm go to KL and BM.

9. After session, go to Molino Rojo

10. Sleep

11. 9:00am Eat

11. 10:00am head to Oasis for you bye-bye massage

Of course, this would be set-up better as a logic tree. IF you sessioned with a girl early evening THEN ....

1) 10 AM Sunday: Slowest day of the week, some places closed, you can't expect perfection- call airline spend 100 bucks and push back departure a day or two. Besides it's 25 degrees in Boston, you in a hurry to enjoy winter some more? :)

2) Enjoy perfect 48-72 hrs. in SJO

Sunday is not the prime day of the week to plan a 24 hour fun-fest but things can be found.

SlickWing's list is a good start but here are a few minor modifications.

3. The place that "burned down" is Mariscar. It's just a few doors to the east of Hotel Presidente. Definitely NOT white table cloth but a quick, good and cheap meal can be had. Costa del Sol, another 1 block east of Mariscar, is another alternative. Order the chicken parmigiana.

Dining is sort of a leisurely activity in San Jose so you might end up spending a few hours in some places.

4. The CRT crowd doesn't start gathering at the Blue Marlin (in the Hotel Del Rey) until around 5PM for Happy Hour.

7. D'Pelufo's doesn't open on Sunday until 10:00PM. The show gets started sometime after 11PM and goes until after 1AM. That will also impact #8 and #9.

Post subject:  Good Luck on your Maiden Voyage

Hey FunGuy,

It sounds like you have a good plan...relaxing on the beach and not burning yourself out in the gulch. When you return to BOS, I'm sure you will be the envy of all your friends with a mid-summer tan in January.
Good luck and have Fun...Guy!
