Hey all I just wanted to know what to do when I get to SJO. Should I purchase the entrance/exit stamp right away. Do I need a Visa? Where can I purchase the entrance/exit stamp? What type of cabs should I be out looking for at the airport? Thanks all.[/list]

If you are travelling on a US/Canadian passport you do NOT need a visa.Just be sure your passport is valid for 90 days past your entry date.
You can purchase your exit stamp on arrival or at several places downtown San Jose. I think it is better to buy it before you go to the airport for your return flight as sometimes there are long lines at the exit stamp counter.

Lespuff,

When you arrive at the airport, and after going through customs and immigration, look for the small taxi office which dispatches the orange airport cabs. The rate for the ride to downtown San Jose was still $12.00 when I was there in August.

As for the exit stamp, I always get mine at the bank inside the INS Building on the 2nd floor. Remember to bring along your original passport.
The INS Building is the tall, modern looking structure, a couple of blocks to the rear of the Del Rey. This bank is also a good place to exchange dollars for colones or to make a withdrawal with your bank or ATM card.

No entrance fee.
Exit fee is US $26.00.

If you stay at the hotel Presidente you can get an exit stamp during regular business hours at the desk next to the hotel check-in counter.

Be sure and fill out the paperwork before arriving at the airport.
