Post subject:  Paying

As a newbie please excuse the ignorance. Should I pay in US dollars or Colones for the company of a lovely CR Lady.

Agree with both the above but and this is a big but,

pay for everyday things in Colones.
If you go to a merchant or eating joint or bar they may not give you a good exchange rate for your dollars. So use Colones.

See my Twenty Top Tips for getting money exchanged.

Have fun.

Get a vasectomy to take the worry out of being close.

Personally, if I were given that choice I'd rather pay $20 than 10K colones. Hey, a buck's a buck. It all depends on whether you're rounding. For example, if a BM chica was asking 30K colones, would I pay 30K colones, the $62.50 exact equivalent or would I counter with an offer of $60 even? Similarly, if she were balking at $60 I might sweeten the pot a little bit with an offer of 30K colones. You might also be able to confuse a chica in some instances with an offer of dollars since they may not be as swift at calculating the exchange rate. OTOH, that tactic will seldomly work with colombianas, who I sometimes think must have cash register calculators for brains. I definitely agree with Ace regarding using colones for everyday small-scale purchases.

Man,ain't that the truth. I gave a Colombina a proper mix of CR and US money (just what I had at the time) and she was carping that I didn't understand the money rate there. She actually came out ahead by a few dollars, but was still grousing about it. :?

Where do u get the US $ exchanged at the airport?

Jamlvr...DO NOT CHANGE MONEY AT THE AIRPORT. You can exchange there and it is very convenient but you will get ripped bad on the exchange rate. Pay for your cab in dollars if you must. Then go to one of the local casinos and exchange your money. Any of them will give you a much better rate than the airport. Try the Colonial or Horseshoe or even the Del Rey casino.

That is partially correct. The money exchange kiosk in the arrival area is a rip off. The bank in the departure area gives a very favorable rate.

Luvnticas & Jamlvr, welcome to CRT. Please read the newbie guide and do some research. You have each posted questions that have been answered many times and could have been easily found using the search function

I would add that I was using the ATM machines at Del Rey last trip and not only was the exhange rate strong, but like others had mentioned, I did not get dinged much at all by my bank. It's very convenient.

Pro,
From my limited experience, these chicas are as swift in doing the conversion as any currency trader that I have ever worked with, especially the pros. You ain't tricking her (no pun intended  ). And the ones who gamble, these 20-something chicas can calculate odds and percentages like a life-long gambler. It's quite amazing actually.

Orange, you omitted the sentence that came immediately after that selection.

Some of these girls are definitely as sharp as you say (and not just the Colombianas). Many are not.

I will say this, however, many of us gringos can be as bad or worse at the conversions as any chica, particularly if we've been drinking. If you want to play around at switching between dollars and colones, you better be careful that you don't wind up tricking yourslf.
