way too long, I know, but I paid the damn member fee(just teasing, it's already paid for itself 10 times over and i'm not even there yet)....

so here goes my first post, I'll call it pre-trip report 1, just in case I have the cahunas to post a second.

So I have to admit a few things up front:

1) I've already been lurking for about 30 hours on the forum in the last month, and I already have some strange feeling like I've met half the guys in a past life(and besides the pun on the jesus name thing, i'm truly not religious in anyway)

2) I'll be in SJ for the first time with my completely insane, monger-king Uncle(who I've mongered in other places before with)

3) I am now completely obsessed with ticas, latino girls, etc etc(especially after a far too recent breakup of a woman who was very close to 'owning me for the rest of my life') and I'm almost positive I will end up
a) paying too much
b) falling in love and
c) paying waaaay too much

disclaimer: i'm 35 now and came waaay to close to marrying a beautiful non-working(i'm still convinced) Thai girl about 3 years ago.... on a trip led by my aforementioned insane uncle monger king.

I've completely gone backwards from my original point(five beers in 2 hrs...sorry)

here's my issue(s)

i'm arriving at the DR on Tuesday Sept 6th(uncle assured me he will take care of the reservation...still a little nervous that we may not have a room)

wednesday we're supposed to head out to Jaco....

I Do Not think I will be ready to leave SJ....

but, on my very first trip to CR, I have this already guilty notion that if I end up 'stuck' in SJ for 4 nights(we leave on Sat morning), it will be a very difficult story to tell friends/family(although my close friends know me better.... ) , and, worst of all, I feel as though I may not be able to justify this trip to myself, with all the 'other things there are to do in CR' blah blah blah

anyhow, i really have no questions, as this site is an encyclopedia of CR delights....

so I guess what I'm really looking for is that sage advice and someone to validate whatever choices i already know i'm going to make...

odds of me getting out of SJ on first trip: even money
odds of me heading to the ZB within an hour of arriving and trying to convince Stephanie to marry me: even money
odds of me falling in love with a tica and breaking down all the rules that i have learned from this forum over the last month: 2-1

and thanks to Ruff for the welcome to the forum!

cheers,

If you would prefer to stay San Jose and take a few day trips out of the city to see some of the country there are a lot available from tour offices of most hotels like Del Rey, Presidente and many outhers.Jaco has good nightime action but it can be harder to find during the day.San Jose has immense options day and night many of which I have listed in my MP list in the MP's bars and clubs section or you will find posted elsewhere.Welcome to the board and your handle is well ,unique I guess.Have a good first trip.RBC100

If you got "stuck" in SJ for 4 nights you would have absolutely nothing to explain or feel guilty about. In fact, quite the contrary. If I were going to CR for my first trip and only had 4 nights, I wouldn't spend 3 of them in Jaco and only one in SJ (particularly during the hot and sweaty season). And this is coming from a "Whorticulturist" who goes to CR for far more than mere mongering opportunities. What you might feel guilty about is if you spent all 5 days in SJ. I don't know about you but I can only screw so many times in one day. You need to find some things to do in between rounds. Of course you could just hang out with your uncle and get drunk until you're ready to go back to an MP, but there are more rewarding things to do. You could spend one day in the city just checking out the MP's in between visiting more traditional tourist sights and your friends would be none the wiser. Add a couple of half day tours outside the city and you still have the afternoons and evenings to monger. Take a couple of longer day trips and you forgo your day session but still have the night to play and then when you finally head home you'll really have some regular things to tell your straight friends.

As for your odds, thats funny, but I wouldn't want to take that bet not knowing you. I will say this, you wouldn't be the first newbie to fall prey to the chica's charms.

There really are a lot of things to do in CR besides chicas. I did the Canopy tour and ATV riding in the mountains and I strongly recommend both.

thanks for the advice prolijo, and thanks for your map on your site also!

i'm now thinking the idea of a long day trip to the beach might be the best alternative, or maybe just a 3-hr tour of somewhere....or maybe just a walk around the block...

i could easily immerse myself in all the spots on your map, as well as the casinos (i've got an unhealthy addiction to losing my money as well as my heart) for the entire 5 days and probably only sleep 3-4 hours a night...

thanks again,

thanks Orange,

and I've also enjoyed your posts quite a bit in the last month.

I was thinking of the canopy and ATV deal too, I assume they're pretty easy to set up with any hotel? I'd do a search but i'm lazy..

One quick question...I've been trying to figure out if most of the CRT members will still be around after the labor day weekend party? It would be cool to meet these guys...they've become bizarre superheroes in my imagination.

cheers!

Anytime man, I clearly remember being right where you are just 7 months ago, and it was cool that a few guys were nice enough to go out of their way to make me feel welcome and answer ALL questions.

Have fun, I'll be leaving paradise the day you arrive... I'll keep the honeys warm for ya!

What Would Jesus is my Wing-Man Do?
:)

Welcome to the board, amigo. Having played the role of monger king uncle, I know you'll have fun.

Okay, as far as odds go, here's my bet...

Odds that JIMWM will buy postcards and never leave the Gulch = 1:3

Odds that he will take a cool day-trip or two = 2:1.5

He will not fall in love with Stefanie, but will fall in love with another ZB girl = even money

I'll be in and out of town that week, certainly could meet you and your uncle either the afternoon of the 6th or 8th for Happy Hour at the Blue Marlin/del Rey.

Screw the beach, you're not going to be in country long enough, and Jaco (closest beach at 2.5 hours away) is hotter than a nun's dreams. Do take the day trip to La Paz waterfall park, a river rafting trip, or a visit to a coffee plantation. Do take a lot of pics around San Jose of the pretty colonial buildings and street scenes.

And when all is said and done, and you've returned home... be sure and post a complete trip report.

PM me when you have your hotel reservations set, and we can hook up. And let me add my sincere bienvenidos to CRT! :D
