Post subject:  IMPORTANT SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT Updated 06-27-06!

Gentlemen:
Because of the every changing Internet world and particuarly AOL when have to make a configuraton change to the discussion board.

If there is no activity while you are on the board for 15 minutes your session will close. This means that if you open the board and don't read anything for 15 minutes or move, when you then hit a topic you will see only the new topics from the last 20 minutes.

MORE IMPORTANTLY IF YOU ARE TYPING any type of a trip report WE IMPLORE YOU TO do so in a word processing program and cut and paste it to the topic when you are ready. If you are in the middle of typing a trip report and 15 minutes pass your data will be LOST unless you it the back button immedietly on your web browser!

If you choose the option when you Log me on automatically each visit when you sign on, then you will only get the new posts after 15 minutes. If you don't choose that option you will have to log back on again with your username & password.
-----------------------------

Reasoning: Because of AOL and other services of this nature every time a user goes to a new page to read it creates a duplicate user so if you read 50 pages it changes your IP 50 times and so on. It gives the server the impression there are hundreds / thousands of people on the server when there are less than 75 99% of the time.

By changing the sessions to 15 minutes the opened pages will close after 20 minutes and we wont get 1000's of users online and our server should handle this with no problem.

Our only other choice would be to convert to a different type of discussion board (VOTED IN THE PAST 99.9% to 00001% No) Or for CRT to go out and get a massive server that we really don' t need.

As stated the biggest drawback will be typing long trip reports or long posts. If you are going to do so We urge you to use a word processing program to cut and paste.

There are many huge boards out there and this is the answer they have all given us as to how to keep traffic accurate and not to blow up the server for no reason.

I am sure you understand this is for the overall of the membership on a whole and not directed at anyone in particular. This change will take place at 8PM EST Today 08-04-05. If this does not fix our issue we will consider other options but for right now this makes the most sense.

THANK YOU FOR UNDERSTANDING!

For those of us that are not that computer suave
and do not know how to use a word processing program,
I simlpy use my e-mail as a new message.

They all have spell check
( I know you all wondered how a dumb plumber could spill so well.)

Thanks for the explanation. Those of us who are filling the gap between CR trips (3 weeks away -- I can't believe it!!!) by downing many fine cervezas need to be warned of things like this -- Admin you rule!-- although when my browser just dumps my words I figure it's just the gods telling me I need to STFU!

Post subject:  Simple strategy to help you cope, Prolijo and others

Prolijo et al,

If you cannot for some reason write your posts in a word processor and then cut/paste into a post, here's a tip.

In the edit window, simply select Edit/Select All from the menu bar, then select Copy.

This copies what you've typed to the clipboard, which will be refreshed every time you again select all the text you've written and copy it to the Clipboard. I'm not certain how well this works with Macs, as I use a PC.

Also, going back a webpage and then forward may maintain your contact with the server, not allowing a timeout to dump your verbage.

Prolijo, I hope these simple suggestions help you to breathe easier. Keep the logorrhea coming, my brother!
:D

Prolijo, I actually went to a Spanish dictionary online and looked up your name. Funny! (And honest. I can just see your mind at work sometimes, reasoning out all the variables in a situation.)

El Ciego -- You open my eyes every day. It's that parallel view of CR and chicas you give, that makes me even more aware of what I am seeing.

YO Cyberspace:
Trying to type this real quick. Did not see this post from the Admin before. That 15 or 20 minute deal is not working with my PC. Unless I can figure out something you will not have to worry about old Circus on here.......there's probably a lot of you fellows who would love that har har. I am even having problems trying to log on. I am a spontanious poster and do not have all the bells and whistles on this computer shit. Okay, I'm pitiful.

Back again. Did not get through.

Took a couple of times to post this. After re-typing all over again. Had to open up forum on another page and sign in again after several tries.........I've got my technician, Shitass, working on the problem. Must be something on my computer aiding this problem. This is a pisser and I've about had it. Something needs to be done. Those of you that have my email address can contact me that way if you need to. Take care ye all. See Ya.

We completed a security update recently that makes staying online difficult for some users.

You must clear the old cookie on your browswer so it accepts the new cookie so that you can remain logged on and not have to log back into the board.

thank you!

We will be doing a security update on the Discussion forum Tuesday Afternoon 06-27. The update will take no more than 30 minutes.

No posts or threads will be lost during this time frame but if you are unable to reach the board Tuesday afternoon for 30 minutes or so please do not bombard me with e-mails.

Thank you........
