Can some of the veteran travelers answer following from novice.

Do most of the hotels and apartment hotels have high speed internet? Do they have terminals in the lobby you can use to check email? :?: ...Or are we talking stone age tech in CR?

Can one go to an internet cafe?

Most have wireless, or high speed cable, plus computers in the lobby.
There are many internet cafes.
No problemas aqui.

I know for a fact that Sportsmen's Lodge has wireless and also they have 3 or 4 desktops available for guests for use free of charge. Pretty fast, like cable in the US.

There are hundreds of internet "cafes" (not really cafes, just little shops with stations) that have "high-speed" internet. Since we didn't have internet at the house we rented, we used the cafes a lot. The high-speed in most cafes is not the same speed as we are used to in the US, it's usually no better than a slow DSL (800-900 Kbps). They are very cheap too, it costs less than a dollar for an hour.

While watching the NFL games in the now non-existant Del Rey sports book I watched a guy monitoring his fantasy team with a wireless laptop back in 2003.
