Can any of the veterans recommend :

-Some good apartohotels in San Jose? Quepos? How about one that's convenient yet at same time moderately quiet.

-Bed/Breakfast?

-What's the going rate? week or day?

-Commuter airline (safe) to Quepos?
-How does one book?

-Martin Air (Holland) now goes direct from Orlando to San Jose.
Has anyone flown Martin Air? Any bad experiences?

Thanks much.

I have stayed at the Apartotel la Sabana. I liked it very much. It is in a nice quiet besidential neighborhood that I found to be safe to walk, even at night. They also have a pool and free breakfast.

It is located in the western part of San Jose very close to Sabana Park which is the site of the old San Jose airport. Many nice resturants are nearby as well as the Oasis MP that you can walk to. Depending on traffic, the cab ride to the gulch should be between 500 and 1000 colones.

I prefer it to any of the big hotels in the gulch.

Make sure you check martin Air for frequency of flights. My friend used to fly them out of Miami and they had 1 flight a day every other day. This is not a problem unless you miss your flight or for some reason it is cancelled. Check it out now. Better safe than stranded.

I flew Martinair once from Miami to San Jose and back. Both flights were on time with no problems, both flights were full but service was good. You use to be able to upgrade to star class (business) for $60.00. There fare was cheaper than AA or Taca so even with the upgrade charge the fare was reasonable and to me worth it. Do not know if they still offer that.

The biggest concern as Grey Ghost pointed out is that should there be a mechanical problem they lack the ability to substitute equipment which could lead to a very lengthy delay. Maybe not all that bad if it means an extra day in San Jose but would not like it as much in Miami
