Don't have any personal experience with that place myself or know for sure their policy.

Generally speaking, the more upscale the hotel the less chica friendly it tends to be. They may not allow overnight unregistered guests or even short term guests if they are obvious prostitutes, which could be just any young chica with an older gringo. One way you can sometimes get around this is if you have her sign in as an additional guest and pay the double rate (when you said "we" I assumed you were already each getting you own room). Obviously, if you have to do this you can only bring back one chica per night, though that might not be a problem. It is also possible they'll allow you to bring back a chica but will charge a hefty fee for doing so, as much as $20 or more at some places. You could also try to sneak one in and if she is not dressed somewhat conservatively and discretely this might be possible. Just keep in mind having a chica register at the front desk is for your protection as well and not just to make money for the hotel. The fourth possibility is that this place is different and their chica fee is reasonable. Until someone comes forward with more precise info on this place, it is a crap shoot I'd rather not take.

The hotel itself is not in the worst location, but it could definitely be better from a mongering perspective. It is just a couple of blocks short of Sabana Park (A3 C38/40) or some 25 blocks or so from ground zero at the Blue Marlin. You're definitely going to want to take a cab, night or day. The immediate area is not hopeless. It is only 3 blocks away from the Oasis MP and several other similar establishments. So, even if you can't bring a girl back to your hotel, there are several nearby places where you can do your thing on-site. There are also a number of good restaurants in that area, including La Piazetta, Masia de Triquel and the restaurant at the Hotel Grano D'Oro (all higher end pricewise) and one of my personal favorites, Machu Pichu.

Another possibility, if you can't bring a girl back and you don't want to limit yourselves to MP's and on-premise strip clubs is to get a seperate room at either the Hotel Asia (cheapest, but not my first pick), or a short-term room at the Hotel Morazon or better yet a short-term room at the Motel Eden. Just do searches on the places I mentioned above.

Check out the Sportsmens Lodge. Price is right, very chica friendly and you will not find finer hospitality hands down. Its just north (i think) of ground zero (BM,KL, and a few MP's around) Check it out!

Just re-read your post. If you're locked into the Quality, my info applies (or for other newbies in similar positions). But since this reservation is not until October, I'm assuming you're not really locked in and can cancel and book somewhere else more convenient.

The Sportsman is a relatively new place (formerly the Hotel Aloki) that's rapidly becoming the hotel of choice for many of the CR vets here. It is close to a couple of the more popular local MP's in a relatively safe quiet neighborhood, but still not the closest to "ground zero" as the BM is sometimes referred to. Since as newbies you're probably going to want to spend a lot of time checking out the BM you may be better of at a more traditional "monger" favorite such as the Presidente or (bite my tongue) the Del Rey.

There are plenty of posts on all of these places plus many others here and you have plenty of time so I suggest you read and decide BEFORE you go out and make a reservation. October is still the off-season so there really is no need to reserve over 5 months in advance.

Genocide (man, I loathe your handle! :( )

How many friends are traveling together?
:?:

If you're on a budget, there are many less expensive places to stay closer to the action that are chica friendly. Search the "Hotels" section on this site. Some others to consider:

The Hotel Gran Via, right on Avenida Central, about three blocks west of the Presidente and only four blocks from the Blue Marlin

Hotel Castillo: Chica friendly, near Sportsmen's Lodge, New Fantasy Massage and not far from many other mongering places.

Hotel Del Rey has been spurned by many veterans on this Forum, but you gotta admit, it's right in the belly of the beast and may be a good place to stay during your first visit.

The Hotel Presidente is decidedly monger-friendly, although you'll be limited to one chica at a time per room.

Hotel Europa (NOT the Radisson Europa; the Hotel Europa on calle Central is the one I'm talking about). Chica-friendly if you're not an as*hole.

Do your homework, and as the always-brilliant Prolijo wrote above, you've got time to make alternate hotel reservations. All the hotels I've listed are secure, clean, friendly and offer good service (although some people have complained about the late-night noise level at the Gran Via and Presidente, and at the Del Rey if your room is directly above the casino).

Hope this helps. Again, search this site for hotel reviews.

Now, for the real budget monger: Hotel Johnson, Hotel Asia, Gran Hotel Centroamericano, Royal Dutch... the list goes on and on.

Hello again Spermicide 1000
:D

Sportsmen's Lodge, at the time of this writing does not have in-room safes, but the desk offers a hotel safe for guests' use. Presidente does have in-room safes. I obtained this information by searching and reading on this site; I haven't stayed at either.

For you big-time video producers, I really think that the Hotel Johnson would be better...
 Naw, just kidding.

Don't forget to post your trip reports and photos/videos upon your return to the States. Have a great time.
:)

While a good in-room safe is always preferable, I don't think it is strictly necessary even for those with lots of equipment, unless you are doing TLN (all nighters) but perhaps not even then. First of all, I never do TLN with someone I've just met or have never been with before. If there is no room safe I have found putting valuables in my luggage and securing that with a GOOD travel lock works very well. A short-term visitor is not going to have enough time be able to pick the lock or cut into the bag without you noticing (unless you spend an inordinate amount of time in the bathroom) and they're unlikely to be able to just quickly take off with the whole bag and manage to get it past the front desk or the guard at the front gate or door without being stopped.

Two of the more popular hotels do have in room safes, the Prez, and the Morazan. HOWEVER, a real downside is the cost of losing your key. These are the old style keyed safes. Losing a key at the Prez will cost $75. At the Morazan $125. You must sign an agreement to this before getting a key. Its a hassle to carry it around... and carrying it around (often in a drunken stupor) is to risk losing it. Keeping it well hidden in the room is my compromise, but wouldn't be a security expert's recommendation.

The new style computer password safes are so much nicer. The only two hotels I have used with these are the Del Rey, and the Holiday Inn. Does anyone on the board know of other acceptable hotels with the password style lock boxes in the rooms?
