I stopped in Muses about 10 days ago while strolling from Bar Malibu to Bar Poas during a happy hr. trek. The price was right,15k for 1/2 hr., 25k for 1 hr., but, (there is always a but) the women on offer (way too old to be called chicas) were a very poor lot. I passed on the selection & headed on to happy hr. Check it out, you never know when the diamond in the rough will show up!

The term Pension is used in many countries for a lower cost hotel. It is certainly used in much of Europe.

In Costa Rican there is no law that prevents transactions involving sexual services between the parties directly involved. However, there are laws that make it illegal for a third party to be involved and profit in the transaction. This means it is illegal to act as a pimp or to run a brothel.

So, in massage parlors or pensions (the terms are largely interchangeable) management allows for chicas to be available but technically is only renting you a room. Hence the use of the term for a low cost hotel. The transaction of what happens in the room is in theory only between you and the chica.
