If you speak Spanish, Colombia can be an adventure. But it is a 3rd world country and I was surprised so many activists are being murdered. 141 last year, 52 so far this year through April.

Pretty sure most those activists spoke Spanish (community activists, land rights activists, indigenous rights activists, etc). Haven't heard of the FARC or ELN stalking english speaking tourists on LA70. At least not yet.

My point was more or less you never hear about this stuff. It's a jungle out there in Colombia.

It reminds me of Gabby Petito case a little bit. Over 710 indigenous people from Wyoming went missing last 10 years with zero national coverage. But one cute white girl......

There are unsavory characters in this hobby. IMO, you are much closer to rubbing elbows with them in the USA than in either CR or Colombia. The woman in the article is a popular Cocoa Beach provider named Ashley and is already networking to feed her addiction.
