Probably same guy as I have run into a couple of times on Avenida Central. Different stories...I remembered him and he didn't remember me when he told a different story the second time. Looks like he's graduated to extortion if its the same guy. I bought him a breakfast once...like I say, not saying it's necessarily same guy, but he's been around for years and crime would not deter him.

If you were a sucker for this, you must be a hick from the deep hills of West Virginia.

A total dick response. The guy came on her to report information, and you have to shame him for it.

This is an old ongoing scam. I knew a guy , new to CR who got scammed exactly like this yrs ago. The scammer can smell a newby somehow. He paid 200$.

Myself I fell for scam about getting residency, citizenship for money. I went with him to the Caja and other government agencies. And he seemed to have the run of the places.
Anyway I only had 80$ on me so that's all I lost. He kept calling me for days and days leaving angry messages. Guess I would been blackmailed or something if I would have followed thru with it.

Another time I was with a friend at the plaza near the Jade museum. A scruffy guy approached us offering weed for sale. I waked away and scanned the area. My friend went over and took a look at the weed. It did not look like weed. So no sale. I noticed a guy intensely watching us. Sure enough as we were leaving he called us over and showed a badge. Had a radio, called for backup. The scruffy guy came over and honestly told the guy with badge what had happened. And he let us go with a stern warning.
He never mentioned a bribe or money. So I guess it was a police setup.
Scruffy guy must have been a cop also.

Not a police set up.

1. CR cops are kinda busy with lots of downtown petty crime, they don't have time, nor do they care to set up "stings" for potential purchases of minute amounts of weed.

2. Cops are instructed not to hassle tourists for no reason. Now if you're loud and drunk, or trying to do drug transactions with street dealers, or anything else serious, that's different.

These were a couple of low rent cons with a badge you can get anywhere, toy store, dime a dozen.

Don't give them any money, don't talk to them in any way...

Carry pepper spray, let them have it, walk away, lol...

Why would anyone follow some random stranger to a McDonalds?

Sometimes I'll get a carls jr burger and say no to fries there, but go to mcd for just their fries... and then unfortunately get either a shake or dessert too, with the fries.

I remember this scam and that specific person.
He got up to the partying/drug offer part and I just told him my job doesn't allow me to do drugs.
Persistence bastard.

You can ignore him but he will follow you like a puppy dog but he eventually gets bored.

Now when I see him I just tell him "I remember you, I'm not your friend, remember my face and don't bother me ."

Sad I have to do this about every vacation. Usually ignoring people works well.

I remember a shorter roley poley kind of guy that would come up and show us a bag of blow. He would walk around carrying an 8 ball and just walk up to us. He was always between Chubbs and HDR. Hell they had a guy that parked outside HDR and sold it. We just laughed at 'em and said no gracias and then he would try to sell us cigars. Every Halloween we went this guy had that same span of concrete.

I like that you acknowledge the true facts about heart problems. It's through sugar and not through meat. If you grab some meat patties from a fast food joint, but not bread or fries or sodas or shakes... you're golden.

An important rule…if someone approaches you in the street, speaking English or broken English and offers any type of “advice”….stay away.
