I have made umpteen trips to San Jose and one of the things that I don't enjoy are that the hotels that are Chica friendly (I usually stay at the Sportsmens, Castillo or Amistad), don't have swimming pools. Nothing more relaxing, especiallyh if you are nursing a bit of a hangover, is to sit by the pool for a couple of hours in the morning, reading a good book.

I have found that the Hotel Santo Tomas (not chica friendly) and the Best Western downtown (nice little hotel but in an absolutely horrible neighborhood) both have pools that you can pay ten bucks or so and hang out.

I read in an earlier thread that Parque Sabana has a large pool. Is that open to the public? to tourists?

Any info on any swimming pool locations near downtown would be greatly appreciated. Headed back down at the end of May.

There's a cesspool in the gulch but no swimming pools.

Hotel Europa located calle central avenidas 3/5 is chica friendly and has a pool.

Ya think that guy troubles himself to EXIT the pool to urinate? I mean....a couple of hours in the pool to recover from a hangover.....that kind of speak is what keeps me OUT of public/private pools and/or hottubs!

He said nothing about swimming - read his post again - he only commented about sitting by the pool and reading. So unless you think he's going to be pissing his pants (hey, just sayin') I don't think you have to worry about him fouling the pool water

Sure, when I'm under the weather, best thing is to sit in the hot sun by the pool

In 15 years, and well over 30 trips, I've never had the urge to swim, or sit by a pool in SJ - maybe because I live in Miami - but to me, that's the least of the hotel ammenities I look for (plus I don't think a pool is on the horizon at the Morazon any time soon!) . But to each their own.

I don't need to swim in SJ, but it'd be great to have more opportunities to work on my cover tan

I believe this is mistaken--we've had reports lately that they changed their policy (perhaps after holding their collective nose) and for a Chica fee, permit guests.

May have changed their policy but a $15.00 fee makes them chica barely tolerable not chica friendly.

There is a water park in Belen, Ojo de Agua it is not too far from the airport. Also a couple of good bars in the area as well.

Other than that I would suggest taking you family to Fortuna and hitting up Baldi hot springs or one of the other waterparks in the area.

I'm from S Florida so tanning is a way of life, but I've almost written off San Jose and usually head for a 2 or 3 day Jaco misadventure for that.

So I got lucky...The owner of the building I live in allows me to get up on the roof for the occasional (usually mornings) sunny day, I keep a single air mattress and my tanning juice up there.

Even though we're 4,000 feet up and it doesn't get that hot, keep in mind we're 10 degrees above the equator and don't need much time, otherwise you're going to get broiled and you won't even know it until it's too late.. .
