Hi guys, Been lurking here awhile soaking up the information. I visit Thailand once per year in January but have the opportunity to fly to CR for free on my air miles. Planning on arriving May 24th departing on May 30th I was gonna list all my questions in one post but here is one I have. From doing my research I know the smoking laws are very strict in CR. I've always been respectful smoker around others to not bother anyone. Does the Sportsmans Lodge or Hotel Castillo have a smoking area? Thanks! |

It is also probably ok to smoke in the little yard outside the clubhouse rooms and the patio outside the mansion wing. |

Technically you are supposed to be 15 meters from a building entrance (or so our attorney said). |

And, that 15 meters is from the front gate, not from the doors into the actual hotel. Under the C.R. smoking ban, anything within the property (i.e. inside the walls) is a no smoking area. Therefore, you'd need to be halfway between the SL gate and either corner to be "legal." I was told that the little patio off the clubhouse, and the deck outside the Mansion are no smoking zones....that being said, I have smoked a time or two in those areas... Technically, the rooms are also supposed to be non-smoking, but many hotels simply look the other way. What really bugs me is that you can't sit in a city park and have a smoke. Supposedly, the only outdoor smoking allowed is when a pedestrian is walking and smoking at the same time (i.e. you're not supposed to loiter in one place and smoke, even if it's out on the sidewalk). Hope this helps. I smoke cigarettes, the occasional cigar and even an occasional pipeful; I haven't really been hassled, although a couple times police officers have politely explained the rules to me. No public photos of the event due to "local social media concerns" of the contestants. 12 beauties and a packed house made it a great event. Try to make it in person next year! |

I really want to attend one of these events. Totally understand about the photos. Is there a date for MISS SL which usually is in late August? |
