How difficult and what is the process/requirements for obtaining a retirement visa for Costa Rica? I have researched some, but would prefer first-hand information...

For those that live there full time and/or are retired there, what are your pros and cons of the place? What made you choose to live there permanently?

There is no "retirement visa". You may mean pensando temporary residency.

You have to have a monthly, for-life pension of at least $1000 per month. An annuity will not work unless the financial institution will attest that it is for-life.

Some people do it themselves. Others use an attorney. You need an apostilled birth certificate; criminal check, and so on. It may take over a year. It is valid for two years. After three years you can become a permanent resident. All residents have to pay into the CAJA (national health / social security).

Do a Google search on "Costa Rica residency". There are two other forms expats use - rentenista and investenista.

Some people are perpetual tourists - do a border run every 90 days.
