Guys m, At first, I was saving up 2500 for one trip ( just a random figure I came up with ) but i was wondering if anyone has spent less than 12 or 13 hundred on one trip. I could get a round trip for 500 if I plan ahead , and need only at the most 3 nights at amistad or SL.

At the most 3 girls too ( one of them being 30 min at an MP3 )

What spurred the question was realizing I'd like to buy some $200+ software and a bike ( live on the Boise river bike path ), so why spend more than necessary on 1st trip.

There are plenty of $25-a-night hotels (or less) around San Jose if you're interested. Some of them are reasonably clean and safe. One of them is DIRECTLY across the street from The World Famous Hotel Del Rey.

Thank you, that is good info. If it turns out they don't allow chica visits,
I'll just reserve one less night at my preferred hotel then

One of my first thoughts was take the public bus from the airport to downtown and then from downtown to the airport, you can save about $40-50 per trip right there but since this is your first trip I would not do it unless you do some research into it and you are traveling light.
Don't get ripped off at money exchanges, do not do it on the first floor of SJO arrivals.
Eat local food, plenty of places to eat cheaply

You will hear this from many others, if you think money will be an issue, wait until you have enough to enjoy yourself with a little buffer, almost all rookies make mistakes with money, even vets make mistakes with money.

Stay home and enjoy the software and bike. The first trip to CR always costs more than planned.

so if i read this right you are looking to take a 3 day trip and spend $1200 including the 500 on airfare?
so $700 for your hotels, girls and food?
if you are only doing one girl a day and hitting the budget mps...
as well as not drinking or buying gringo food (casados are cheap and are basically chicken, rice and salad)
it can be done but why not take an extra 3-400 in the event you are actually having fun?
all depends on how you like to roll but you are hardly alone if you are hanging out not spending money lol
vacation is supposed to be fun 8)

I hear you ( and am with you all of you ).. but I can actually have a surprisingly hefty amount of fun on little cash. I need to get it out of my system and hit del rey, is the thing with me, even if I'm not rolling in the dough. I don't eat much ( one meal a day - it's an intermittent fasting thing )...
So really, my question was moreso a poll type of question to find out if anyone had made a quick trip and spent the least amount of cash I guess.
I do appreciate the tips you guys did offer, though like. avoiding certain exchange places, the cheapest transpo, etc..

One reason for my impatience in making a CR trip, is for the first hand experience, so that I come back, I've got that visceral experience-based drive to watch less tv and make more money for more adventures, to CR and to Columbia... It's a motivation-mind thing..
So thanks again guys.

3 days in San Jose for $700 is no challenge at all. Come on down.
(But bring an extra $300, just in case you need)
As an example.
Airport into town and back $36 ($18 each way) - You can do for less - read how on forum
Sportsmen Lodge per night cheapest room $200 (3 nights with continental breakfast)
MP Girls like at Monicas for $40 per hour (there are plenty of other MP in this range) x 1 per day = $120
Del Rey or other independents go for $80 x 1 per day = $240
Food x $25 per Day = $75
No Taxi needed - Just Walk the town. It is safe. It is interesting, and it is free.
No entertainment $$ Needed - Just talk bull to all the guys (and gals) you will meet and have fun with.

OK, you do not gamble, you do not get to buy a round of drinks, or get ripped of $20 on a taxi that takes you 5 blocks. You do not get to go to a strip club, or Phuck a 10+, or get a TLN but what the hell???

You get to take the panties off SIX young girls, eat them if you so desire, and then it you have control of your dick, you can Phuck them for hours.

Man, come on down to the land of honey

Now that you bring that up, I was eyeing a rather sporty looking bike on the balcony next to mine, but I can't trust my acrobatic skills to get there.... but then there's also getting the bike back to my balcony. I like where you're going though.

Seriously, though.. I'm going to allocate more like 1800 for this short trip and just get a walmart cruiser type bike. Not really an avid cyclist.. just wanted to leverage my location to the bike path and was jealous looking out my window at everyone cycling by.

I agree and would add the following based on about 40 trips to Costa Rica. If it's your first trip take one of the orange airport taxis they cost more than some of the other transportation methods suggested but they are safe a reliable. Because it's your first trip you dont know where you are and where your going take the cab straight to your hotel.

Because it's your first trip I strongly recommend staying that the SL, La Amistad or Castillo. Your are certain to meet like minded guys who can provide you with a lot of good information. Dont be afraid to engage the guys at breakfast most will be more than willing to help you. The information you get is invaluable. In addition you get breakfast included with your room.

I agree with the others who suggest you can eat for $25 or less per day. Dont starve yourself because food gives you the energy you need for your main activities. Most of the guys you meet can make recommendations for low cost places to eat a good meal.

If you drink in moderation and dont blow a bunch of money gambling you will be fine. Keep in mind that you may go to the Del Rey and see something that you really want and this will cost you about double than an MP girl would.

Finally, I would say to you and any other newbie reading the board that this is not a cheap hobby. Most in the hobby look to save money on airfares, ground transportation and hotels but the chica fees are what they are at the various venues. I am in South Florida so I am able to get more favorable airfares to the CR or the DR where I go on a regular basis. I dont drink a lot or go to gamble so I dont blow a lot of money that way. I also tend to avoid expensive restaurants. At the end of the day it's TEHO and I hope you have a good first trip.

I agree with this post. He is actually figuring two ladies a day for you, one being HDR pricing. You can get Interbus (http://www.interbusonline.com) for $15 each way from/to the airport. They will take you to your hotel, so no safety issues involved. If you stay at the SL, you can fill up at breakfast - it's like a continental buffet. If you don't eat lunch, then you have $25 for dinner and drinks.

I think you should go ahead and buy the bike you want. If you go to CR, you will have paid for the flight, you will pay for the hotel when you check in, I am pretty sure you pay Interbus with a credit card online; so if you run out of money it's no big deal. If you have treated the bartenders at the SL well, they will give you a glass of water and some peanuts. You will have experienced what San Jose has to offer, and then you have a good basis to make future plans.

Also, since you are a CRT VIP member, don't forget to show your card to the bartenders at the SL. 10% off everything except happy hour drinks.

One more thing not mentioned so far is that you can do half hours at the MPs for about $25.
Not likely to get BBBjs unless you pay $10 more. But your choise there.

Appreciate the additional info. I will take heed of the recommedations, including that Interbus I didn't know about.. and remembering my crt card. I'm thinking of Amistad due to the package deals situations. We'll see though, as it depends on what's available and what days I can get off from work
