Looking at google maps the MP's I plan to visit are all within 10 minutes from DR. I don't plan to walk anywhere being this is my first time.

Is there a way to set up transportation to the MP and back to my hotel? I pretty sure I can get a taxi there getting back to my hotel is what worries me

in the area of the DR all the taxi drivers should know the way to most of the mp's
if you want to try a different approach just go to the SL around 4 any afternoon
talk to some guys and chances are high you will get a couple of guys that know the way and will be happy to show a first timer the ropes
thats the way many of us did it the first time around

uber.. or red cab should be easy enough
keep a business card of your hotel to give the driver the proper info...
you'll be up and walking after the first go around

where are you staying? id recommend La Amistad for your first solo trip, just for the ease of linking up with another mongerer

LAdiablo offers great advice on networking with other guys at sportsmans...

Talk to one of the cab drivers outside SL and negotiate a tour to have them drive you around the gulch during the day pointing out the various MP's and strip clubs that you want to see. Stop in a few while they wait. Once you get the lay of the land you will be able to walk between them during the day. After a few trips you may gain a comfort level to walk at night. Best to avoid walking around after 9 or 10 by yourself.

That sounds like a good idea negotiating with taxi but like I said I plan to do no walking at all

If you have the map and know or are willing to learn a little spanish, a regular cab will get the job done.

Rather than relying on them knowing MP names I just ask to be dropped off at the nearest intersection, store, park, bus stop, etc. Yeah I have to walk maybe 1/2 block but it's simple.

If you are able bodied after a couple cab rides you may find it's more trouble than it's worth for nearby MPs. Take HDR to Zona II for instance. In the time it takes to: hail the cab, explain destination, deal with possible traffic, make payment, etc... you could have just about walked there.

First, the taxistas at the HDR and the SL are, frankly, ladrones. No meters and high rates (for example, $2-5 to go from the SL to the HDR when its CRC 653 or $10 to go to La Sabana when its CRC 3400 or less - you do the conversions).

Second, why not walk? The MPs are open in the daytime and paying HDR taxista gringo rates?

And pay in colones!

This is truth.

This is impossible. Unless you hire a driver and have him on standby, you are going to have to walk.

What happens when you walk out of the HDR and there are no taxista ladrones? My last time in SJ I went by the HDR several times in the daytime (on my way somewhere else) and - curiously - there were no red or pirate taxis. This was in the middle of the day, so a walk down Avenida 1 or Calle 9 would have turned one up, but it still would require a walk.

What happens when you come out of the MP? Often you have to walk a bit to get a taxi.

And even with Uber... I called for an Uber at Zona 2 (actually the HHR) and the guy was off over on the other side of Parque Morazan and couldn't find me. I walked up to Av. 7 and got a taxi to take me to see my friend in Barrio Mexico (another taxi horror story).

Are you worried about crime?

The outside should have no dirt on this, as well as the inside should be neat as well as uncluttered, creating this easy and simple to inspect for whichever signs of damage or general wear and tear. Document any dents, dings, or whichever minute scratches on your vehicle together with the company so there will be absolutely no possibility of a later misunderstanding once your vehicle is returned to you. An additional inspection will likely be administered at the drop off location. Or else a forklift will require to be used at both the pickup as well as delivery locations.
