My buddy and I are embarking on our first Costa Rica adventure tomorrow. We are flying different airlines and getting into SJO within 30 minutes of each other. Is there a good place to meet-up at SJO before going out to the Taxis? Appreciate the Board's help!

The little cafe to the left after you exit customs.

To clarify, you walk outside of the arrivals terminal, past the gauntlet of taxi drivers, and it's on the left.

In the baggage claim area, there is a duty-free store where you can buy alcohol. Also, there is a phone store there where you can buy a phone or a sim card. Don't exchange money at the money exchanges in the baggage claim area, they are a rip-off. You can probably kill 30 minutes in that area, and it is much easier to meet someone there before you go out into the mass humanity outside of baggage claim.
After your friend arrives, go outside, cross the street, up the stairs to the departure terminal. Go inside and turn right. All the way to the end there is a bank that has very good exchange rates. If either of you fly in on Spirit, you can also pay your exit tax just before you get to the bank. I think all other airlines have the exit tax in the ticket price.

The bank has moved. They are clearing out that area, the exit tax place is down to 2 windows since almost all airlines include it now. The bank is now to the left as you enter the terminal, it's on the left hand side, just before you get to the security lines. I got 550colones-1usd there on Saturday.

Good to know. I went and picked up some friends at the airport the other day and ran upstairs to grab some cash so I could get some colones for them. I took a quick look around and did not see an ATM over by the self check in so I left and went back down stairs where they were just walking out.

Thanks for the update SinCity. It's been a few months since I was there.
