Greetings all, been combing through The wealth of knowledge on this board and trying to arrange things and get everything in order for my first trip (tad nervous and excited!) in November... but seem to be having a problem even getting things in motion and making a reservation at HDR through their website. I put in all my info but when I go to submit I get a 404 error, definitely seems to be a problem with their website as I have tried on multiple different devices. Anyone have any input? I'm a relatively older dude and still trying to overcome my computer illiteracy and tech phobia. I usually ask my daugther or her husband for help regarding all things internet/computer related but that is pretty much out of the question in this instance rofl!

Anyone who has booked there recently run into this problem? I know the many members here have moved on from actually staying at HDR but figure I should just dip my toe in and start off slow with a known entity on my first visit before I venture out. I'd just as soon call but I have read in other threads that even on their US toll free # whoever occasionally picks up doesn't speak much english and can be hard to understand and I can hardly hear anything as it is these days. Thanks for any help, it is appreciated.

I would definitely not recommend using their website for booking, it is not secure and well outdated.

If you'd like to book online, do so through booking.com - this has the added benefit of catching discounts sometimes during slow months.

Your other option is to call their reservations desk and make a booking that way.

Thanks for the help, much appreciated. I really am clueless and beyond out of touch regarding this stuff, I have as much to learn about the web as I do about Costa Rica it seems... Anyhow I will probably just call, after a quick check it seems through a site like booking it would cost about $100 a night for a standard room, ouch! Wasn't aware November was a particuarly busy time in CR. Anyway, I shall call, thanks again!

The reservation/reception desk is staffed by english-speakers. Don't be afraid to call. Ask for an email confirmation of your reservation and price - - - if you don't mind that on your email records.

For $99 a night you could stay all-inclusive (3 meals; bar*; laundry) at La Amistad. Plus no $11 each Chica fee!

Or $100 plus whatever you spend for food plus whatever you spend for booze plus $11 every chica (over and above what she agrees to).

* Well booze free - 50% off call booze.

The all inclusive meals definitely sound convenient, I will have to look more into La Amistad, I just was going with HDR because it seemed like ground zero for a total newbie and eliminated the inevitable nighttime walks to and from hdr to pick up a girl which I was hesistant to do after reading about the warnings to always take a cab at night. Also, only through booking.com was HDR $100 a night or so, I assumed for standard rooms and booking directly with hdr it was the rate most people on here seem to confirm, I believe between $55-69. Hopefully that is the case because if it is $100 a night at each place then the all inclusive one would be that much more enticing.

dont quote me, but i think the rates at hdr may be:

- Deluxe ¢58.850.00 + Tax 2 queen size beds, two people (approx. $110+ tax)
- Standard ¢41.340.00 + Tax 2 queen size beds, two people (approx. $78 + tax)
- Standard ¢34.450.00 + Tax 1 king size bed, 1 person (approx. $65 + tax)
- Economy ¢31.800.00 + Tax 1 queen size bed, 1 person (approx. $60 + tax)

give or take a colon

I called the reservation number and got a nice clean $65 a night room on the 4th floor. There is only 1 problem and it is the 5500 colones chica fee, but at least you don't have to get a taxi at a late hour. Also wifi is unreliable

I email HDR $65 including tax. HDR will ask for arrival date airline flight # and passport number they will then respond with the confirmation number and you're all set

Very very grateful for all the input guys, called this morning and I'm all set to go..flight is booked, hotel is reserved, so no going back now. Been wanting to do this for years. It is a relatively short visit so maybe if all goes well I can venture out if I visit again but just figured maybe I should stick with the homebase until I learn the ropes. I'll be there mid november, so if anyone happens to see a guy that looks like the cryptkeeper in need of some diet advice then by all means come up and say hi, let's just hope I don't scare off most of the girls lol. Anyway, much thanks again all, this site is already proving to be quite invaluable, will be looking into a membership if I survive this trip.
