http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-37184651 Facebook will now share our numbers with advertisers and allow them to send unsolicited advertisements to our phones. I suspect Whatsapp use will start declining in lieu of a competitor. |

Hey Guys, Here is how to opt-out of most of the data collection, including the unsolicited ads: https://www.whatsapp.com/faq/general/26000016 UPDATE: Group is gathering to create a federal complaint. The cell phone providers here give you a week of Whatsapp use for free when you recharge your phone. I wondered how they were doing that financially. Thanks BD for the answer! |

I read the article yesterday and received the update notice this morning. Had I not read the article I probably would have just hit Agree without unchecking the Facebook contacts sharing box. They probably already have my contacts even though I have never had a Facebook account. It was constantly installing itself on my previous phone, and I was consistently uninstalling it. As a friend of mine in the FBI says "Facebook is the best way we have of knowing what you are thinking and where you are going, until we are able to plant a chip in your head". Normally, any data is charged at a certain rate so using a cell connection not wifi would cost you data fees while using WhatsApp. The special is that for a week, there are no data charges for using WhatsApp with the cell network. |

In Colombia, the providers offer free unlimited Whatsapp and Facebook Messenger usage as a bundle. It isn't counted against your data usage. |
