Would it work for Sprint iPhones?

CDMA network phones have issues in Costa Rica. I always had problems with my Verizon phone but my AT&T worked just fine. Both Verizon and Sprint use the CDMA network.

Or - switch to Project Fi (which uses Sprint, T-Mobile and US Cellular "simultaneously" in the US, plus Kolbi in CR), works in 120 (or more) countries including CR.

And wifi calling. My Fi phone works in the Central Valley, etc. just fine. It doesn't work at work in the jungle, but that is either Kolbi's infrastructure or I have to tinker with the AN settings.

Look it up. Read the techie blog reviews.

Or get an unlocked GSM phone and put a CR SIM card in it when you get there (kiosk in the airport) - you can even get a dual-SIM phone.

The unlocked GSM phone for CR gives you the option of getting chica numbers to use with WhasAPP, but they only have your CR number. And mine works over wifi so I can keep in touch and make advance arrangements.

FYI....
I have had Sprint for years and with success over the last several years depending on the phone model used it in Costa Rica. The new Galaxy phones, and Iphones if unlocked for international travel will work in Costa Rica with a local SIM card. The only thing is that Sprint won't unlock your phone unless you have had it for 3 months or 6 months I can't remember which it was, and you hadn't requested an international unlock in the last 12 months. Good luck.

PM if you have any questions.

I forgot to note that while Sprint does use the CDMA network all of the new phones are both CDMA and GSM capable. Both the Sprint iPhone 5 and 6 will work in Costa Rica without issues if given an international unlock code from Sprint. Older models don't work because they were CDMA only.

Very often people know how to unlock phones for a small fee. There must be people in CR who will do it.
Will not work on CDMA phones though I think.

My unlocked sprint iPhone 4s worked fine in San Jose and Jaco. I called sprint and asked them to unlock for local and international use with no problems. Once you get to CR buy SIM card, you'll have both data and cellular service. Make sure to sign up on whatsapp before leaving CR to keep in touch with chicas when back in the states via wifi.
