Hello Gents, I have been investigating traveling to Costa Rica for a while now with a multi purpose plan for going. I'm an avid scuba diver, so I want to experience the variety of sea life CR has to offer. I'm totally interested in the beautiful Ticas and want to experience the opportunity CR offers. Lastly, I am researching options of a location to semi/retire. My considerations thus far include Cozumel (which I have a friend who lives there), Belize, and now CR. For my first trip to CR, I am considering staying in Playa Ocotal near Rocket Frog Divers who seem to be a great dive outfit. I've read the board here some and have figured that that area is lacking in opportunity for mongering. Even Coco, Hermosa, and Tamarindo are sketchy at best (from what I've read on the board here). I plan to rent a car (my stay will be 8-10 days) to travel down to Jaco (which is where I'm reading that the business is moving toward), but have a question of If I plan to bring sand to the beach, who is a good contact to make that happen? BTW, any of you going to be down there sometime April or May? I've not finalized my dates yet but that is the time frame I am planning. Thanks for any of your input. Greatly appreciated, Skooby |

Have you looked up Coco Island? Divers paradise. Plenty of sand in Jaco. |

Welcome skooby and congratulations on your retirement! There are many expats who post here and you can find them and some relevant info in the subforum "living and retiring in Costa Rica" Here is a good thread: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=47267&hilit=Retiring+Costa+Rica It can really get hot at the beaches and many prefer the Central Valley as it is cooler due to higher elevation. Just something to consider. There is a town up in the hills call San Isidro de El General just outside Manua Antonio that might be worth investigating... Small town atmosphere and only an hour or so to the beach. Good luck! |

I did not plan to do a liveaboard trip this go around. It will definitely be a trip to take if I end up staying in CR. Thanks for the input! |

I am still doing lots of research and looking forward to my first trip. I will continue to read on this site as well as others. Appreciate you taking time to respond. |
