Two birds, one stone:

1-having been eating provider kitty up and down I-95 for years between Philly and DC, I am embarking on my first CR adventure in May. What is everyone's thoughts on DATY? Are most ticas open to it? Would you recommend it?

2-I'm a fair skinned Irishmen. How rough is the Costa Rican sun on fair skin? I want to explore and enjoy CR, not hide in my room until the sun sets.

Thanks in advance. This forum is a vault of knowledge. I look forward to contributing.

Take a hat and sunscreen if you are looking on getting out of the gulch area. If you are going to be spending most of your time in the gulch then do not worry about the sunscreen but a hat is good if you are going to be walking. If you head to the beach it will be hotter than shit most likely and if you head up into the mountains you will need a jacket. As for the DATY use your head and if it smells like cologne leave it alone. If you speak spanish you will be golden but otherwise let the girl know that is what you like to do and not just for a couple of minutes. If they ask for more $$ tell them goodbye. I never paid extra for DATY as I knew my skills would produce the desired result, and that I felt was worth the price of admission. I can tell you though if you do the job right you will have girls looking for you in the future and either get a discount or non rushed service for ringing their bell a few times.

Great! I take pride in my skill so hopefully my DATY translates well. I'm sure it will.

I am starting at Jaco for my first CR adventure. I prefer beaches to cities, as I live in a city and want a change of pace. I'll be bringing the sunscreen for sure.

Thanks for the advice!

I'm from the Northeast also, and I can tell you that sun is much stronger in CR than at home. The way it was explained to me once is that CR is much closer to the equator so the sun is much stronger.

One time a few years ago, I spent about 6 hours in the pool in Guanacaste, and I didn't put sunscreen on my head. I didn't feel it at the time, but at the end of the day, the scalp on the top of my head was burned tomato red and it hurt like hell for a few days.

My suggestion: at the beach use sunscreen, and if you will be in direct sun, make sure you get sunscreen on your scalp. And in Jaco, it's 90-100% humidity so you will be sweating a lot, keep that sunscreen handy.

Benny... I'm in Philly too. I'll tell you this, us micks get roasted down there, especially along the coast. Not sure when you are going down, but I was there a few weeks ago and it was so hot and humid it was almost unbearable! Went on a small hike one day and got some color even though I had spf30 on. Bring sunscreen and protect yourself. Have fun- Costa Rica is an amazing country. There is tons of info here so read away and be safe!
