I have a kolbi sim with minutes that has gone unused for quite a while. Do they deactivate the number if dormant for a period of time?

I ask because my Dominican number through Claro was deactivated after going unused for 1 year.

i was told by Kolbi that after four months of dormant useage, they will reassign the number.

if you know someone in CR , ask them to just put 1 mil on your number from time to time. i havent figured out how to recharge it over the web, but thats possible too.

Thanks for the intel. Masterpago site allows you to recharge online, but their mobile page is less than intuitive. I suppose I can get to a regular computer and give it a go. I got lazy and failed to do the periodic add.

The minutes expiring I get as part of the prepago deal. But losing your number is a real pita.

I have an app on my iphone, its called DING, just type the number with country code, then select an amount, EX. +506 1111 1111, movistar has a website, just choose prepago internet, I think there is another app called top off. DING does movistar, Kolby, Tuyo and Claro.

Now that is slick! Should have figured there's an app for that.

If you haven't put at least 500 colones (about $1) on your Kolbi SIM in the previous 90 days, Kolbi will make the SIM inoperable. But it will operate again if you recharge the SIM with at least 500 before 120 days elapses since the last recharge. It doesn't matter what the existing balance is on the SIM.

If you haven't put at least 500 colones on the SIM in the last 120 days, Kolbi will make the SIM FOREVER INOPERABLE........... you lose your number. In that event, you'll need to buy a new SIM with a new phone number.

I expect that Claro and Movistar have the same rules.

Rac, now I know. I'm in the forever inoperable category.

I call these things a "stupid tax". Do something stupid and it will cost you.

$4-5 a year to keep your number is not unreasonable.

I asked them at the airport when I left. I was told 3 months, I added $5 before I left since I'll be back before then.

My last trip was last March and I returned November 25. I stopped at Kolbi expecting to have to get a new number, but the guy said I still had time on it. I added some $ and it worked fine. I will be back in early March again, but will probably add a couple dollars in January to not tempt fate again. Maybe they hadn't reassigned my number yet? I was surprised.

Here is where you can recharge online. http://www.masterpago.com/recarga-autom%c3%a1tica

You have register on the site first which may be a pain, as they used to ask for copy of the passport, dunno if it still does.

The $2 that you re-charge online every 90 days is not lost, it stays on your account balance. So when you get there you will have that money available, so you may not have to recharge anymore that trip.

Thanks gents. As mentioned, looks like I'm starting over since I picked uo the sim in Oct 2014 - and added nothing thereafter.

The final kick in the nads is that next trip in I arrive around midnight. Doubt the airport kiosk is open. Not to hard to drop in on a shop during a MP walkabout though.

:D

Hello,
Concerning adding time to a Kolbi Sim Card.
The link I posted "World Remit" will let you add time
to a Sim Card from Kolbi.
I add time to a friend's phone there in San Jose all the time from Florida and never a problem, and if there is a issue you can call
and speak to a human.

Regards
Chris Berner
