random question and it may not even be possible. Has anyone ever changed your flight out of Costa Rica and got a later flight the next day or so. We fly in Wednesday night and get in late and with all this passport crap we will probably get to SJ late I'm sure so a full day is just gone. The return flight is Saturday at 4pm and I'm sure we have to arrive at the airport earlier than I expected because of the passport crap so we really only have 2 FULL days in CR :? With that said do you think it will be possible to try and switch to a flight out on Sunday that way we can have Saturday as well and I'm sure we could find a place to stay for one night so not to worried about finding a hotel (sounds like a lot rent for 1 night in the SJ area). I'm off work that Monday so getting back late Sunday night wouldn't be an issue. I know it depends on the airline if there are seats etc but just wanted to see if anyone has ever done this and if it's even worth or out of the country (not sure if they give you a hard time etc.)

If there are seats, you will be able to change your flight but you will have to pay the change fee, which will be $100-150, as well as the difference in fare between your original ticket and the new one. It could be as much as $200-300.

Make the change as soon as possible because the closer to the trip date, the higher the price will be.

I just looked at the return flights and the SUCK, some are like 31 hours total with a full day layover (never understood who takes those flights but won't be me). I guess we will just stick with our original schedule and just really really blow it out Thursday and Friday. We should have booked until Sunday from the get go but we were thinking 3 nights will be plenty and it still may be if the airport departure goes smooth.

Yeah +1 on working with the airline asap. Orange is on point about the cost.

Can't say it would work to your advantage, but it would only take a few min to look at a one-way return ticket on a different carrier. Even though 1 ways are usually prison rape pricing.

I fly in and out of Dallas. I can get a 1 way back from SJO on a Sun for $200 ish (ugh) on Spirit.

good call hotdogg and I thought about the one way flight option so I will look at that to see what prices look like. It may come out cheaper than trying to switch flights with AA

I know there have been reports on here about the long delays getting through immigration, but I have talked to a local resident there and she said immigration is running normal. There are times when immigration is disorganized thus causing long delays. The last time I traveled there, the non-resident line was all the way to the stairs, with people crowded between the roped lines and the stairs. There were two agents working the non-resident line and five agents working the resident line. After forty-five minutes in line, one of the employees opened a rope and send a group of us to the resident line. Then, three of the five resident agents started taking non-residents. There were people at least 15 behind me in the original line who were processed before me in the resident line.
