Hi everyone,

I'm taking my first trip into CR in Oct, I was wondering what everyone thought is a good amount to take for 10 days. Being a veteran from Thai trips I know it varies on food choices, girls, MP's, other activities etc..just wanted everyone's thoughts and ideas.

Not cheap , 300 a day should be your budget (hotel not included in that amount)

You can have a REALLY good time with a $300/day budget. 8)

That's what I budget per day too, but typically don't spend that much in a day. But its a good feeling to know that you have the cash budgeted and available should a splurge (e.g. dupla or TLN) strike your fancy! :D

Also, with that budget, you could book some tours and even arrange some custom tours too. Bottom line: $300/day (excluding hotel) will buy you a great time in CR.

Agree on the $300 a day...good to cover entertainment expenses and probably have some left over...

Very important, although US$ are taken almost everywhere, make sure to exchange your bucks to colones...use colones not $, your cash will go further! Go to Casino Colonial, right next to Hotel del Rey and exchange your $ bills for colones without any delays and lines (banks). You'll get the best rate at Colonial :D

OR just bring the USD You need for the hotel and exit tax and bring an ATM card. You can get colones almost anywhere with an ATM card. Just make sure you contact your bank and let them know and that you have a 4-digit pin. Don't use dollars, use colones.

A question for you, Rugbytim and/or whoever else has been to Thailand: how much do you take or think is a good amount per day in Thailand? Thanks

Well Thailand is pretty cheap for many things. I averaged about $250 per day and did anything I wanted ( 2 girls, meals, drinking whisky and cokes, laundry, gym etc) and most days had money left over to carry onto the next day. Last trip I took which was 10 days on the ground I spent 2300.00.

$300 is on the high side I have been coming for 30 years and get by very nicely with $200 per day, and even take some girls to dinner

It's an 'average' thing. I plan $300 a day too, but almost never hit it. Though I recall a single day $400 bill at Scores and a $500 bill at LeGri ... clearly not all mine, but you get the point.

Some guys live the high life, and some guys slum it through. He's just asking for a ballpark number, and he'll adjust for his style.

If you sat at La Amistad you can significantly decrease your expenses. A queen room at all inclusive rate is $94 plus taxes. But this includes all your food and alcohol. It would be a good choice if you consume a lot of alcohol and food. This allows $200 for other activities at various other venues. The SL is just down the street and you can find partners for your other activities. Like others said, $300 each day will go a long way.

I agree $300 is an average figure. Some days you are going to spend more and some days less. I also stay at the LA with the all-inclusive but you probably are not going to eat all your meals there and certainly you are not going to do all your drinking there.

For Thailand - Exchange rate is real good right now (maybe because of the bombing?) $1 = 35.86 baht. BJ bars in Bangkok/Pattaya girls want 700 baht = $20. You can do Thailand for $200 bucks a day and have a GREAT time!!

You will always spend more in CR than you budget for. I don't know about Thailand but unless you are really disciplined with your money you will always find ways to have fun for more money. Save up for the trip and just have fun!
