Hey! I'm about to start my journey into the costa rica life, What is the average age you guys who go?

I'm 24, and feel a bit young from the stories that I read!

You're a little younger then the average age here but no worries. It seems that there are more younger guys coming to CR these days than when I joined the board 10 years ago. I was 29 and one of the youngest at that time.

howdy broken city;
at your age, in costa rica, it should be alot of fun. Compared to the local guys you could be in demand, you could be getting it for free, if you play it right.
the ladies have enough old guys to pay them, they look for young studs to go party with.

I wish I would have found Costa Rica when I was 24 years old. I discovered San Jose when I was 40 and that was 20 years ago. Been coming back at least once a year (I try for twice) ever since.

If you can speak a bit of Spanish and even better dance, I would suggest that in addition to the normal monger venues, you try some of the more Tico places. Though you may find the occasional working girl in these places, it is usually just regular girls out for a good time. With that in mind, be sure to observe them a bit before approaching them so you don't hit on someone's girlfriend.

The main university is in San Pedro, a short cab ride from the gulch. I lot of bars there frequented by the students. 18 year olds can drink in CR. I always liked the Jazz Cafe. Lots of other small bars in the area.

There are also the dance clubs like Castros but you will probably need some dancing skills. Ticas love to dance. If you are good, you will find yourself very popular, very quickly.

One place that I really like, that has a very young Tico crowd, is El Cuartel de la Boca del Monte. This is a very large, multi-room bar that usually has live music. If I remember correctly, Monday is one of their more popular nights. I think it might be ladies night or something. It is walkable from the Del Rey but I would take a cab.

You will have a great time. Stop in the Sportsmens Lodge at almost any time and there will surely be a veteran sitting there having a beer that can give you some advice.

Just there last week and I thought the crowd looked a little younger. When I was there in April, it seemed that more college guys were coming into town for Spring Break than I had seen in the past. This was in both SJ and Jaco.

Many in the college crowd typically went to Mexico for spring break, if the hospitality industry in CR did it right the could play on the fears of traveling to Mexico and play into a "safer" CR to party in.
Especially with more air carriers getting into the CR market.

Exactly right. Forget the tons of bucks they made with baggage fees--capture the college "Spring Break" crowd and an airline's fortune is assured. Somebody's marketing gang is slackin'--and there's great surfing/partying could be had in the SouthEast corner of CR. That could come up and stay up with the right marketing and modest development. + Quepos ( BYO). Or some specific locale in Tamarindo, separated enough to not scandalize the locals.

So true! I don't care how young or handsome a man is, there is a brief window in life if you are a man where it is free. Enjoy it while you can, it is so rare and fleeting.
Unless of course you like fat chicks, then the world is yours. :lol:
