Hey yall, Im a 28yo asian guy from Houston making my first trip down to CR. I'm staying at the Hotel Morazan, I'd love if a vet or fellow traveler might want to grab a drink or hit up some strip clubs! Right now I have no solid plans, so any suggestions would be appreciated as well, been looking at some of those day long tours out of San Jose, are they worth it? Anyway, super excited to go to CR, and looking forward to meeting some of you all.

As a first-timer and for five days, you should be busy in San Jose. The tours are worth what they charge if you want to do some tourist stuff. Plan to do that during another trip. Also, don't get hung up on the strip clubs, create your own strip show in your room.

Cancel the reservation at the Morzan. Dont go on any tours. Use the money for a nicer Hotel like Amistad or Sportsmanship Lodge. Take tours after your 10th trip. Seriously

I second the suggestion to cancel Morazan! The rooms really do suck. But Morazan is close to Del Rey, and you can walk to it at night. If I were doing my first trip over again, I would probably stay at the Del Rey even though they do have the extra fee to take a girl to your room. Personally, I prefer to avoid the taxis whenever possible.

My first trip was for 5 days......a virgin to CR.....I had a tour of some kind planned each day.....Stayed @ the HDR......when I arrived and walked in the coffee bar entrance....WTF :? ....walked around the corner to the front desk and the sun shined in.....it was a long night with hardly any sleep, went on a rafting tour the next day.....Halfway thru.....we could not wait to get back to the HDR 8) .......Canceled the remainder of all booked trips and chased the tang, partied and gambled.....How sick????? You didn't really actually have to leave the Hotel........I was in Adult Disney World  Drinking, gambling, poon tang, food.....what else did I need.......went home an d was back in less than 30 days!!!

So cancel your Morazon reservation and get in at the Sportmens lodge......whatever room is available.....or stay at the HDR and get no sleep like I did.

If you need help picking a room @ the SL, I can Help...stayed in many of them....ewwww..... they change the sheets!!

You will be glad you did.... The rooms at Morazan are pretty shoddy (to say the least)....if it were my first time I'd stay at DR or Sportsman....then during the day you could look around and check out other hotels in the area.....either way--have a great time!!

Everybody is saying cancel your room at the Morazon right. How many of those saying that have actually stayed there?

I stayed there for two nights on my last trip which was last month. The bed had a hump in the middle, not a valley which one might expect from an old bed, and the overall condition of the room was poor. I likened it to a very run down Motel 6 in the states. It was kind of depressing, actually.

When you stay at as many hotels in the gulch as I have, you remember the shitty beds......Old HDR, Presidente b4 remodel, Castillo, Amon Plaza, Morazzon,.....etc...so you are more apt to flock towards the newer upgraded furniture.....along with other many benefits. :P

I know, compared to some these were 4 star....

I have stayed there a few times over the years...it has gotten progressively worse....I do like the restaurant though.........but I think the rooms have become a real vacation killer!!.......

Most of the comments are probably based on the cheapest rooms in the hotel. The rooms on the 5th floor are the best ones. It is nice to walk out of KL and in 50 steps you are at the elevator plus It has worked my last few trips. I now stay at the LA for 4 nights than switch to the Morazon for the weekend. I have stayed at almost every hotel from the Pres , balmarol DR ,Irazu except the Mona Lisa.

I've stayed at the Morazan many times over the past 14 or 15 years, and it's not quite as bad as some people say, especially if you like to party late at night. As Buzzfla mentioned, the rooms on the 5th floor are the best. Sure, you have to put up with Ricardo the 'bellhop', and the occasional elevator issues, but those are relatively minor annoyances. I can't recall ever having an issue with the beds, but with the exception of one time, I've always stayed in one of the 5th floor rooms. You can't beat the convenience of the Morazan, unless you're staying at the Del Rey itself. As someone mentioned, the restaurant is nice...the lunch special is quite good, and very reasonably priced. My main concern with the Morazan is the loud noise at night from certain rooms. I would avoid the rooms overlooking the Key Largo (the DJ 'music' lasts until around 2:00 in the morning), and the rooms on the corner across from where Papi's bar used to be (the noise from the Baja Beach club down the street lasts until 4:00 AM or so).
