Hello there fellow mongers! Allow me to briefly introduce myself...

I am a 40ish dude from NY, fairly well acquainted with the scene here in the NYC area. I have sampled a few other states action as well, and even a couple of Int'l destinations like Chile and Argentina.

I'm intrigued by the whole Costa Rica thing, and have lurked here for several years gaining insight and information.

I'm seriously considering my 1st CR trip for this October, and have jumped in the mix to hopefully participate in the forum, and pick some of your brains a bit! I'm also happy to share my local info and experiences with those of you who could benefit from it...

So thanks in advance for your help, and keep those great Trip Reports coming in!

Welcome to CRT. 3 things to do: Read/re-read Bro Oranges Thread for Newbies (#16357), join CRT if only for the discounts, and spend some time at the Sportsmen's Lodge talking with the gents there--it will put serious practical meat on the theoretical bones. Good luck and good skill.

Welcome...enjoy and learn! Jazz has spot on advice to get you started. I suggest you get the CRT membership also as it can pay for itself in one trip.

I will be making the trip in mid-October and staying at the SL. Post up your trip dates and try to link up with others who may give you some help/advice/guidance/recommendations while you are in town.

I'm doing my due diligence... gonna try to get through as many of the "noob" guides and posts as I can.

I'm already pretty deep into the most recent trip reports...that's been pretty helpful. So far I've learned:

DONT PAY CIEN!!! (lol, unless she's really worth it, or unless I'm really drunk...)

DONT PAY UP FRONT!!! (EVER!)

And...

NO DFK WHEN YOU HAVE GIANT, READY-TO-BURST COLD SORES (thats just gross...)

How am I doing so far??? 8)

If you are the type who likes to jump in with both feet, come down for Halloween weekend, the end of October, first of November period. There are some serious parties going on, plenty of hot girls, plenty of gringos for wingmen. Only drawback is that the better places fill up soon or may already be full.

in all honesty bud, if you drop $1k on flights, and are looking into a penthouse room, why don't you swing the cost of becoming a paid member of the board?

For a CR freshmen with no contacts, I would think that Christmas week you will only find desperation in the HDR and MPs. Of course the churches will be full, so you could try pulling from there. Just remember to tip at the door.

Reading newbi posts and trip reports are a great way to learn - just do the opposite

Yes, it is - and if this is a condition you experience often, do us all a favor and don't go -
