By this time tomorrow I'll be down in CR. Is there any seasoned veterans going to be down there that could show this newbie some of the ropes?

vets and expats can be found at any of the venues. Almost all are willing to share info, tips etc.
Just strike up a convo at the bar.

That excitement before trip #1... enjoy it.

Like has been said, there are plenty of good guys willing to give tips, even take you around to show you some of the places. Remember, a drink or even lunch is a nice gesture of appreciation for anybody who takes time out of their day to show you around.

Also, a word of caution.... many guys over-do it on their first trip. When I say over-do, I mean girls, alcohol, even drugs. Always stay in control, you'll have a better time and be safe. Also, avoid being on the streets late at night. Taxis everywhere after dark.

You are welcome to hang with myself and 2 wings, we get in on tuesday around 3 , I am at the airport now writing this, we meet up at the delreyat 8pm nightly at the tute table .....its right in front of the casino cash out cage , look for 3 gringos , we start there then move on to some clubs, or whatever . Thank you Orange, Ed and Mike. I have picked up a lot of tips off this site, reading most of your posts and speaking to people that have been there numerous times.

But to go solo to a second world country is somewhat scary and out of my comfort zone a little bit. Mind you I did grow up in NYC in the 70's and 80's so I'm not as naive and the country bumpkin from Kansas.

hey no worries, you are going to have a blast. I find it damn near impossible to not have a good time in CR.
I have been solo on most of my trips to CR, you will be fine.
