This has been covered before but not recently. Character Maps are a way to insert non-English letters in English writing; very helpful for Spanish words, symbols not on the keyboard, etc.

iDont use anything from Apple so iDont care about those but for my computers using Winders I find it easier to setup the keyboard to United States - International. You can then use the Alt and maybe Ctrl+Alt keys to type the letters with accents, tildes, etc directly from the keyboard. No need to open up a character map and cut and paste characters.

Can't imagine what caused Bro Western to re-open a 6-month old post on an obscure subject, but I'm sure glad he did. Valuable info given--thanks, Bro.
