The first thing to read and absorb is Orange's Thread--it's a "sticky" for very good reason: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=16357

The 2nd thing is to consider being a contributor, vs just a taker - and support the board by joining as a paid VIP member. You also are entitled to many discounts  as a member. Guys will help you regardless, but supporting the board is always a great way to start, and separates you from the pack.

3rd thing I'll do is echo Jazz' suggestion as to where to start, and Oranges advice piece is a good place.

Use the Search feature (although I'll be the 1st to say on this board its far from perfect) and see what/where that gets you - for example, there is famous volcano, called Arenal - type that into the search feature, and a lot will <likely> pop up. There is probably no truly new question, but guys will be happier to help you if you look like you have a clue when you ask.

The way to get answers is to do a little basic research, a lot of reading, and ask more pointed questions that show you too the time to help yourself as opposed to the average newbi dummy who basically says let me prove how little research I did by the questions I ask, and how truly dopey I really am - help yourself a little!

None of the above is a shot at you personally, just some observations based on your post that can help you out when you get to questions about what you read.

I could make your life so easy by saying:

a) stay at the Sportsmans Lodge - but not during Christmas or Easter week
b) contact via PM Bangbang57 and ask him if he will do a walk with you early in your trip, like 1st or 2nd day and show you around
c) go to Zona II and Scores, gringo oriented MP's and hang out for a while; talk with other guys
d) realize the Delrey may be the best known option, but is not the "best" option
e) don't over plan, go more with the flow, and realize if phucking is your main goal there is no better place in all CR to do it than San Jose

Just some food for thought - good luck :)

Welcome ghost.

Absolutely start with Orange's thread. Write down questions that pop into mind.
Then head to the trip reports and read what other guys have been experiencing. Again, write down questions you don't understand.
Once you are glutted on the trip reports (don't go too far back in time ... things change), then hit the Newbie section and read what fellow first-timers have been asking. Many of your questions will be found here.
Once you've digested all of that material, then you should have a list of unanswered questions all ready to Search on.

I forgot one important thing - do a search for posts made by a guy called Rolltide - read his posts, threads, and "saga" - then do the absolute opposite. :?

Seriously, while the threads make for good reading, he is the best example of a dumb newbi who really went off the deep end over a whore. (And a not so great looking one, at that)

I think he is still a member - type in Rolltide, and start at the beginning and read his posts - resist the urge to scream out "How can anyone be this clueless???" Resist the urge to open your veins when reading his saga. Then vow never to be so dumb.

Scuba, for a moment I thought you were going to say the same regarding my posts. Lol. But if he thinks he can keep at the same pace as me, then I suggest my TR from last may.

I'm still working on what the hell "Tapatalk" is      (Are you in the mothership? Are you circling earth? Does the XT603 also act as a taser, like on Startreck? Looking for a place to land in a small central American country? Obviously, I'm messing with you!   )

No, seriously, every so often I just get on a Rolltide kick, and I guess this is the week for it - no post of yours or anyone else's can come close to his saga - By all means, read it if you have not already
